The Assassin of Grins and Secrets

The Assasin of Grins and Secrets is a complex dark fantasy story that starts its development in book one and pulls you in immediately.

The main character is a strong female assassin with synesthesia. The way she sees sounds with color makes the descriptions so beautiful. 

Serein avoids Death by accepting to be the prince's guard. The Moroccan-inspired world dives us into an exotic city. The political intrigue weaves games and danger. Although Serein accepts this task as an opportunity to get closer to enemies and get her revenge, the relationships evolve and she finds herself trusting new friends when the horrors of her past find her.

It's a slow burn, and the first book only establishes her in this new political game but the action scenes and trials move the story fast and I can't want to read the second one. 

Apart from Serein (the reasons are spoilers), my favorite character is Uriah. His relationship with Serien is the best and with him, we get to experience Serein's humor.

The book includes extras to help us understand the new vocabulary introduced. I suggest a physical copy so the reader can consult this appendix as much as needed. I don't mind not understanding all the words at first, for we start to get them as we go and to me it helps with immersion.
