Spilled Milk Based on a True Story

K. L. Randis2013
Based on a true story, Brooke Nolan is a battered child who makes an anonymous phone call about the escalating brutality in her home. When Social Services jeopardize her safety, condemning her to keep her father's secret, it's a glass of spilled milk at the dinner table that forces her to speak about the cruelty she's been hiding. In her pursuit for safety and justice Brooke battles a broken system that pushes to keep her father in the home. When jury members and a love interest congregate to inspire her to fight, she risks losing the support of family and comes to the realization that some people simply do not want to be saved. "Beautifully written, hauntingly real, Spilled Milk is a must read for any young adult today." - F.P Lione, Author

Aside from being a sensitive topic about physical, sexual abuse, and manipulation, this is also a book of hope for victIms. I thank the author for sharing her story.

The abuse was so horrible to Brooke and her siblings. His own children. I cried too much because I was angry, frustrated, and sad for Brooke. She's so brave, patient and still kind to her mom and siblings, despite being hated for coming out. Throughout the pages, Brooke have already exhibited depression symptoms. I could only imagine how lonely it could have been. I'm glad she had Gina. Without her, she would probably never think of telling anyone, or worse, maybe too late. I hope everyone who had experienced or currently experiencing sexual abuse have a Gina in their life.

Although Paul was Gina's son, he's an asshole. He needs to learn empathy from his mom. Being immature and teenager, doesn't make give you an excuse to leave your girlfriend in the middle of crisis and tell her you're disgusted. Also, despite of knowing what's been happening, how could he demand sex? What the hell?! I'm super glad that Brooke didn't end up with him. His husband was a complete opposite of Paul. Jason is the greenest flag ever.

Amazing! This book caught my eye when I seen it advertised. I don’t think I’ve ever cried while reading a book before!!! Thinking about the poor girl and what her sibling went through makes me angry and sad. Recommend this book to everyone!

I can only ever applaud someone for sharing their story the way that Kelly has. This book has been sitting on my shelf for a little as I tried to gather the courage to read something so intense and, quite honestly, terrifying. She is an inspiration and I wish her nothing but the best and a speedy recovery.

I had to read this book for my counseling families in crisis class and didn’t expect much of it other than it just being a requirement I have to do. Boy was I wrong, I have never been much of a reader and have definitely never cried so hard from a book. This book has changed my perspective on so many things when it comes to the subject of abuse and has put a lot of things into perspective. I’m grateful that I chose this book to read and think anyone would benefit from reading it.

Inspiring A truly inspiring novel. Your heart breaks as you read what Brooke has suffered throughout her life, and that she doesn’t realize how wrong it is. But as you read her journey, you can’t help but feel inspiration as you watch her never give up and continue to fight.
