Classic, managed to read half, and listen to half of it on the Storytel app. This baby is too big to carry in your head, for it is full of drab anecdotes and flourishes - when stripped off, will leave behind a 200 pager on the pan. This is being made as a movie by Mani Ratnam. Sure! I am confident that Ratnam, past his prime, will create caricaturish glimpses on screen, with underacting glory and over-made stars playing iconic characters. When boomers watch the film when it hits the screen, it will result in a massive outpouring of anguish, anger, and frustration. People will wish that the movie was never made at all. The story is fairly straightforward, and Kalki has great style in storytelling - having been a magazine editor and film personality, Kalki knows the knack of creating byte-sized suspense to keep the reader hooked. Not recommended. Just watch the film anyway, or read a summary. Or wait till you retire and spend time reading 2000+ odd pages. Bah. Seriously underwhelmed, after such hype from 2+ generations that shamed me into reading it - for they said I was missing a great experience as a Tamil. As Trump says, "Sad". I will wait for Ponniyin Selvan's film review in Neelam magazine, not on popular YouTube channels like Film Companion. One time paaklaam sir.
