I'm really not sure why this volume exists. It adds nothing to the plot overall. It could have been skillfully finished in the prior volume and yet... I'm not thrilled with it, but it does provide a nice ending.

As Raenef continues training to become a Demon Lord, he devolops a frightening personality after he attempts to study in the demonic library.

The true nature of Raenef is revealed, with his late forefather, Raenef the IV, haunting the scene, the chaos of why he died is finally revealed. Ultimately, it takes quite a bit of suspension of disbelief to get behind this plot, but it isn't the worst thing I've ever read.

As Raenef continues his journey to restore the harmony between the demons and the gods, questions remain about his identity as a demon lord, and the formation of an unlikely alliance threatens to change everything.

This book is mostly backstory. First, you get more of how Raenef and Eclipse first met. There's a short story in which Raenef gets engaged to what is presumably an eight year old? Either way, I don't think Raenef fixed their weather. Not sure what's to be done about that. And then you get Chris's tragic backstory.

This volume of Demon Diary shows you how Raenef and Eclipse originally met, as well as bringing the cleric Chris into the fold of Raenef's supporting cast. I like that Raenef was an orphan living as a thief on the streets before becoming the demon lord. Again, I do find the characters to be a little one note. And, as always, the art is pretty.

Raenef, the Demon Lord in training, faces an attack by his friend Chris, the future High Cleric of Rased, that leads to a confrontation with his predecessor, the fourth Demon Lord Raenef.

Raenef the IV is defeated, but not after an epic battle of wills. I wish I had more to say about the book, but the characters and plot aren't particularly complicated.
