One of Us Is Back
Reviews

this is the third book in the series ‘One of Us is Lying’.
Usually the books have perspectives from like 6 different people but this has only 3 and I’m happy with it like that in this book as these characters were the most important/had more interesting things to say about the plot.
That brings us to the plot 😱
It started getting very unrealistic with this book to be honest. The whole revenge thing worked in the first book, maybe the second but it’s just getting a tad bit excessive in this one. Jake’s whole backstory is just kind of where it gets a bit far. No way Bayview, where ever the flip that is, like California or something, is getting this much drama and crime brochacho like what 😭 this book was kind of unnecessary but could have been a bit more realistic by maybe like being completely different or not existing?
Thank you kindly 🫵

Kept me guessing. Wanted more romance but still really good

Love this whole series so much!! Nate and Bronwyn so much! All of the characters have so much growth and they end the story nicely in this book!

I think this book was much more fast paced than the last one in the series. I liked how everything kind of came full circle with the first book. It was nice getting to see all of the characters, but I liked that we only have 3 povs so it wasn't so confusing. I never would have guessed who was behind it in this book, it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I think I enjoyed this book the most out of the whole series, but would recommend the whole thing.

so many unexpected moments but i felt like the other books were better

I loved this series and I’m actually really sad it’s over

I read the first book back in 2019, i watched the show when it came out (although it wasn’t exactly similar), and i have read every other book since the first. Karen M.Mcmanus is one of the authors i trust, and instantly buy. I loved another chance to see my favourite characters again. And i’m actually so amazed and happy with the fact in the beginning, it repeats/summarises what happens in the first two, because honestly i did forget some. The plot twist wasn’t obvious to me, and i really did enjoy it. I felt like it wasn’t as intense as the others, which is why this isn’t 5 stars but not only did o enjoy reading this but it was such an easy read.

a win for sapphic addy truthers!!

Went into this book with 0 expectations but somehow was still disappointed. It was honestly just average, the story was very random but it started off strong and then lost the plot. Although it did pick up points for wrapping up the trilogy properly and a good send off for the original Bayview 4. I think a main issues I had was there were just so many characters to begin with and as the story unfolded, more kept getting added in. If the story begins with 9 mainish characters and then you start adding to that list, i’m just going to loose interesting cause I barely care about any of them.

Good ending to the series!!!

I will never, ever turn down the chance to go back to Bayview. I love all of the characters (arguably some more than others) and of course, McManus knows how to write a mystery. While this one is a bit more out of left field, I still found it really good, and since we got to see more screen (or is it page?) time of Nate and Bronwyn, I am content. My one issue with this book is the way it addresses privilege and who gets out of jail, which is, of course, an important conversation to have. However, it does so on a very, very surface level and ultimately I think the reader is left with the same question posed at points throughout the book: has the cycle been broken? (I won't say more for spoilers' sake)
Now, I'm going to go cry over Bronwyn and Nate, so if you don't see me for the next 3-5 business days, that's where I will be.

Was this book absolutely necessary? Probably not. Was it nice to see all of the Bayview characters again?! Definitely!
As someone who’s a big fan of One of us is Lying, I couldn’t wait for this book to be released! I’m always down for more books that are apart of some of my favorite series’. So when is was sent a eARC of OOUIB, I was beyond excited!!
However, I’m sad to say that I felt like nothing really “thrilling” happened for literally most of this book. There were a couple of scenes here and there where something exciting happened but then was quickly resolved so I was feeling kind of meh while reading this book.
I will say, I felt like we got much needed background information on Jake and Simon to really understand their friendship and why things went down the way they did!
Overall, I enjoyed being back in Bayview but wished there was some more action.
