James Douglas known as the Hawk, has never had a woman say "no" to his sexual advances. So the "Fae" plan to play with the Hawk and bring to him a woman that can and will say "no" to him and one with a fiery temper who will fight him on all angles. Adrienne De Simone lives in Seattle and having some pretty bad experiences with men in relationships, she avoids men that are handsome and charming like the plagues of Egypt. Adrienne has become a bit bitter, with due cause. So when she is taken back through time to Scotland in the 1500's. Where through a chain of events she finds herself married to the "Hawk". At first Adrienne resists his charm however as time continues and despite her ever searching for a way back to her own time, her heart hardened shell softens toward him as the passion between them rises. The desire that she feels for Hawk unsettles her in a way she has never before experienced and Adrienne yearns for his tender touch. James is a formidable warrior in both the battlefield and the bedroom however upon meeting his new bride he comes across a woman with a will to mathc his own. The battle is on...in the matters o flove...who will be the conquerer? I fully enjoyed this time travel romance, that takes you back to the medieval Scotland, and written by one of my favorite romance authors. The more that I read from Karen Marie Moning, the more I get excited about reading her other books, since the ones that I have read so far have been outstanding, as this one was as well. Adrienne, has been hurt, but when she is thrown back in time, she has to face a future and a life with a man that she both fears and desires. The Hawk is definitely an Alpha rake, a seducer of women, no matter their reservations. However when she becomes married to him, he knows that she is unlike any other woman he has met and he knows that there is something peculiar about it, and he wants to find out what that is. Its a enchanting love story that brings two souls together with a little twist that will keep you on the edge.

Don't ask me how I got through this series. I basically rated everything with two stars, but lbr I can't give this series more than 1.5 because it was not good. Every book was basically the same, including the dudes being assholes.

I reaaaallllllly wanted to like this book bc I loved the Fever series…but I just couldn’t. Time travel + faeries + scottish men made for a pretty stereotypical plot.

I read this over two years ago and never wrote a proper review for it. I've never been a romance fan so this didn't go very well for me. My friend Kate did enjoy the book so you should check out her review , it might convince you to give this a try! Spread the love people, we all deserve to be famous! Awesome badge courtesy of awesome Kat! ************ Original review (November 2012): This is not the type of book I usually read but once in a while I feel like a change and try a something different. Well, picking this up was definitely not a good idea. I still can't believe how ridiculous this book is and what possessed me to finish it. Granted, I skimmed through most of the pages, but still... The writing is awful and repetitive (get rid of every passage where the heroine says she "hates beautiful men" and those where the hero's flawless body is mentioned and half the book is gone), the characters are beyond clichéd. I thought that A Knight in Shining Armor was bad but after reading Beyond the Highland Mist I am actually tempted to give it two stars instead of one...

A Midsummer Night’s Dream meets Outlander. Yes. I’m all for it. A Fairy King and his fool seek revenge against a handsome Highlander who supposedly wooed the Fairy Queen. Their plan? To bring a woman from 1997 Seattle to 1513 Scotland. She’s been hand selected to break his heart. She’s had beautiful men lie to her and use her in her own time. Why would a Highland Laird from 1513 be any different?

2.5 star I was in the mood for a slightly ridiculous and fun romance. Beyond the Highland Mist kind of delivered that but I admit I skim read sections. I lost my craving Ng for the ridiculous part way through so I began to lose interest but it was a fun crazy pants romance for the most part. My problem was Hawk being such an alpha male and Adrienne miraculously being able to do a correct accent and blending so well in the wrong century. Both things annoyed the hell out of me and meant I couldn't enjoy this quite as much as I might. Also, the pacing was all over the place. Sometimes it was slow and things were explained other times time shifted all over the place and I couldn't figure out what had happened between one scene and the next. It definitely could have done with a read through to clear that up. I liked how Hawk was more than he first appeared though. He was an annoying alpha male but he was also smart and well travelled and interesting. Same for Adrienne, she was no fair damsel or swooning female she had balls and she was strong. She may have been quick to judge but she had good instincts and was smart. I questioned how easily she adapted but if I suspend my disbelief I did like her at times If you're fancying crazy pants romance this may work for you.

Meh Nothing truly memorable about this one. I liked both Hawk and Adrienne on their own. But it was a little too much instalust without substance for me. The premise is being that, of course, they lust after each other's physical appearance but in the end, they love each other for their actions/personalities. While it follows through on the first, it doesn't really happen for the second. It was a good way to pass a couple of hours. Gotta say, the fae element and Adam, was a little strange. It was an interesting hook but by the end, it seemed the only way to create conflict was from this outside the main story source. I understand why it was chosen but I have mixed feelings. The side characters are good. I'll read the next in the series for sure. I liked Grimm in this book so I'll see what happens in the next. It doesn't look to have fae subplot but we'll see. Also-on a side note. I read both this and 10 things I love about you on the same day. Both got 3 stars for vastly didn't reasons. I liked this one as a book inherently better.

Ok, I am going to start this review stating that I, in the past, have loved this sort of thing, I have read a lot of time travel (and back to Scotland, always back to Scotland!), indeed, it was all I read for awhile. In the last year or so, however, I have preferred reading Contemporary books, so that may well have some influence on my enjoyment of this book. I have had this series on my radar as a to read for quite a while, so was quite excited to start it. Now, when it started, it was a bit all over the place, lots of people mentioned or shown and as if I should already know who they are. But it settled down, and things became clear, and I got into it. I struggled to like either the H or h first, but the H was soon getting my sympathy! Hawk was supposed to be this powerful man, handsome, able to and has had any woman he desires in his bed, strong, notorious, feared etc....yet he falls in love with Adrienne very quickly, and it is hard to see why he does! Adrienne, yes, we are meant to believe she has issues with "beautiful men", well, only one, the only man in her past, so she tars every other beauiful man with the same brush! She was mean to Hawk (view spoiler)[ every time she used Adam's name with him, it would state how much this was hurting her but she had to harden her heart against beautiful men (hide spoiler)] It just seemed all a bit mean girls on her part, juvenile and nasty. I started to really enjoy it in the latter half, and Adrienne realised how unfair she had been, and instead the focus was on them as a couple having to deal with the outside forces that was threatening to tear them apart. I just wish that had come sooner. And while I do not expect a book like this to be very historically factual and massively well researched with regards to that, sometimes the 15th century characters sounded quite modern...a character using the term "If you catch my drift" for example. And this was not a character that could have picked up this saying from Adrienne! It also felt like some certain things were mentioned but then never explored, such as Adrienne being an orphan, not knowing who her parents were, and feeling like the 15th century was home to her....I was reading that half expecting that to be made into something bigger but it never was. But, all in all, it was a solid 3 stars, I did enjoy it, and do want to read the rest of the series, I just, unlike some other books I really love,do not NEED to read them all now!
