Wow! What a disparity of opinions on this book. I have enjoyed other books by Ms Slaughter, but I thoroughly disliked this one. I think it's possible to write a book about child pornography, sex rings, incest and more in an informative and interesting way, but this definitely was not it. I found the story completely unbelievable. Also, the characters of Jeffrey/Sara/Lena are interesting, but I think the author has gone to the well a few too many times. There are only so many horrible things that can happen to the same characters in a small town.

bitch. its 4am and i just had to stay up to finish this cuz what! i originally thought the pacing was a little bit off compared to the first book but BOY was I wrong. Miss Slaughter just kept throwing shit at us left and right. i love how none of her "twists" ever feel cheap and the story is so enthralling and tightly woven that you can't even begin to predict what is about to happen.
also, this book was disturbing as FUCK like probably the most of all her books i've read so far.

Again, I LOVE Karin Slaughter. The way she writes has such a good flow, and the characters are very well developed. 

I trudged through this one a little bit, I don't know if it was the subject matter or if I was just in a little bit of a slump.

I can't believe I finished 2 Grant County books under the course of a day and a half. I'm telling you, this will forever be my default brb-currently-reading-karin-slaughter face: 



My father caught me going through the book in our living room, and he was like "....................what the hell happened to your face?" lmao 

Well, they really aren't for the faint of heart, her books. So many graphic details and violence. Yadda yadda yadda. This one featured so much fucked up shits my brain couldn't process them all. What I know is, it got a hell lot better than the first book (Blindsighted). At least I didn't feel like being run over by a goddamn truck after finished with this one. 

And my friggin god, the twists!!! I thought I knew (some was anticipated, but at least it wasn't so obvious like the last time. I really did have to go back and reread the whole page again when the big one was revealed). 



Brutal. 

While the details weren't great. Disgusting, even. I had to say, that's what crime/thriller is all about, guys. The experience. The emotional rollercoaster. The uncomfortable feeling of knowing things you shouldn't have known in a million years. 

One thing I'm not sure I'm a fan of is the main characters. I am neutral about Lena, and I like her character development. Her arc is horrendous, but complex and offered a lot of depth. However, I don't particularly care much about Sara and Jeffrey. I hope they don't turn into these one-dimensional boring couples in the next 3-4 books? 

(But somehow I imagine Jeffrey looking like Boyd Holbrook from Narcos. So at least I got that going, which is nice.)



Ah. Love that man. 

I'm not proud to say this. But even though I have a thesis proposal due in very very soon, I might yet again spend the next 15 hours binge-reading the next installment of the series. Damn, Karin Slaughter is good!

PS. Well......my mom passed away due to breast cancer. I don't appreciate the certain parts featured in this book, because the memory still haunts me to this day. But that's life, I guess.

I continue to be shocked with every chapter I read. This book does focus an equal amount on Jeffery Tolliver the chief of police as he comes to terms with having been forced to shoot someone underage. We also meet up with Lena, another officer as she works through herself and her ordeal from the previous book. She seemsnto be at the heart of the investigation of this book, having a strange sort of connection to a possible suspect. With kidnapping and other horrors in this book it really grabs your attention.

So many good and truly shocking twists to this story. Karin Slaughter is an auto buy author for me at this point.

It wasn't as scary or twisted as other books by this author, but the whole subject is pretty hard and horrible. 

The book wasFast paced, lots of interesting twists, twisty enough that I didn't want to put it down. Ending is OK. The story itself is quite hard and interesting. The characters have their quirks and enough dimension to follow through but not enough to remember who they were.

This is what I'd qualify as a "guilty pleasure sunday read".

I'm not sure where to begin. I don't want to say I liked the story, because it's horrifying and it's like walking out of the movies having seen "The Silence of the Lambs" and saying "Wow what a great movie."

Here's the thing. I was engaged but there were things that bothered me about this story and part of the things that bother me are carryovers from the first book. In the first there were some pretty big issues left outstanding regarding Jeffrey and his police force. Frankly, I assumed that there would have been some mention, even in passing regarding the resolution of that. Nope, it's like it never happened. The good thing, you could pretty much read this book as a standalone and the only thing you would miss is some of Lena's back story.

My other issue is that the main characters (Sara, Jeffrey, and Lena) are so flawed that as a reader I want to climb into the story and smack them. That being said, I find Sara the most likeable but it really bothers me that the author hasn't found a way for Sara and Lena to connect positively. They don't have to be friends but I find the animosity tiresome. 

Then there is Jeffrey who has his moments when he's a good guy, but mostly he's self centered and self absorbed. Then as if that wasn't bad enough he has some sexist and degrading thought about Sara and you just want to punch him in the face. Twice.

Speaking of Jeffrey, seriously, how can Sara and he get back together????? Unless book 3 in the series involves Sara murdering Jeffrey.

This is the third time I've read this book, but despite knowing the twists and how it pans out, I still continue to enjoy the story and writing style. One of her best.
