What is this, some kind of old timey country smut?
As far as short stories go, I won’t lie, this one packs more spice and emotional baggage in 5 pages than I could have expected. The Storm is a strangely upbeat story about an adulterous fling during a rainstorm, where at the end, everyone is perfectly content and no drama erupts. A+ on originality, the plot twist was the lack of a dramatic plot twist, and I really respect that.
All the fooling aside, this story feels powerful for its unapologetic and soft-edged acceptance of a taboo, particularly relevant for its focus on women's sexuality and identity outside of being a wife and a mother. I think it could be a subtle yet interesting study for earlier feminist literature.
