Has she been sent to save the realm or destroy it?

. . .

As Spymaster to the Queen, Aya's blood oath ensures she protects those she fights alongside - including Will, the Queen's Enforcer and Aya's bitter rival.

When rumors of dark magic rise in a nearby kingdom, both are sent to investigate.

But when Aya's power acts beyond her gods-given affinity, she risks being turned into a weapon in a war she doesn't know how to win.

And when her relationship with Will unexpectedly shifts, neither knows the danger that will follow . . .

The Curse of Saints

The storyline & characters were solid & once I got into it I had a good time BUT the style of writing and the linguistics of the characters did not match up to an adult novel writing style.

Possibly because I was listening to the audio but the amount of times gods-damned, gods-forsaken, and hells was used got extremely obnoxious. Yes in most high fantasy there are multiple gods and multiple hells, but the majority of the characters integrate other cursing into their vernacular.

If this hadn’t been classified as Adult Fantasy, I probably would have rated it higher.

Torn on this one.

The Curse of Saints (Fairyloot Edition)

While the target audience for this is classed as adult, I would definitely class it more for the new adult classification in my head. It read a little YA in parts, but not in a juvenile style.

The world building was interesting and made clear in smaller digestible bites, teasing it out slowly over the first few chapters, which helped it not feel so info dumpy.

The characters all came across as morally grey, which I enjoyed. But they were incredibly layered as you went through the novel, constantly catching me off guard.

The romance isn't so much present, more that it is hinted at, and you are lead on an inticing journey, and the author slowly weaves towards the potential for more in the next book.

Did I enjoy reading this? I found it gripping to an extent, especially as the last few chapters began to play out. However, I am still on the fence as to whether I will continue with the series. That decision is for another day.
