The narrative is clunky. The characters are cliched and unlikable, unless of course they are cliched and perfect and admirable. The weird third-person semi-omniscient narrator was sloppy. And the entire thing attempts to be emotionally manipulative without having an ounce of genuine emotional resonance. I'm disappointed, as a knitter and a reader.

I bought this book in a 3-for-2 sale. It was the the third book that no one ever really wants or needs but a free book is a free book, right? I had read a review of the book somewhere beforehand and had been lead to believe that it is about a group of interesting, diverse and strong women so I thought I might like it. Strong female characters are right up my street and, like I say, a free book is a free book. Well it may be about strong women and engaging situations but I suffered through 40 pages of tedious and amateur writing (why use 30 words when you can drag it out for 200, you know?) before I decided I could face no more of it. 

So that was that. It's the eternal 3-for-2 conundrum, isn't it? For the third, do you go for the relative unknown and see if it works out, or do you take the staple, probably sure thing? Sometimes the unknown works out. But it just didn't this time.

I loved this book. A easy read. This book made me laugh and made me cry. I felt like I was leaving friends behind when I finished reading it.
