I think that while this book was good and the characters were properly fleshed out it was quite clichéd and because of this the story played into some ideas of an overall system, again following those clichés and that of someone who believes nothing of themselves yet is the most powerful. However I do think the almost dystopian Aotearo was very cool and the main characters' relationships with her family and girlfriend were very well done and showed a good depth.
