Honestly, I’m just not very impressed with this book. The only thing I’m excited about is learning how a screenplay is being written. <br />

my first katherine center book and i'm hooked

can’t sleep so i just needed a “solid writing, but terrible story” and this hit the spot. the FMC was very rude to her sister and did not really apologize to her and that really really irks me. i truly cannot believe this third act breakup. or the big apology scene. like what? ultimately, i never warmed up to him. and i found her to be narcissistically altruistic in a way that was self serving and not self sacrificing. ugh i hated it, it was just what i needed tonight.

I love a good screenwriter romcom but BLESS THAT POOR WOMAN EMMA always getting nerfed by sick ppl😔

i really enjoyed this! emma is really likable (ppl w eldest daughter syndrome beware bc your heart will HURT), and who among us isn’t able to relate to having particular dreams and expectations for ourselves that are thrown off track bc of the unexpected circumstances of life? i think she and charlie have a great dynamic that is well-paced — it doesn’t feel like the romance moves too fast, bc they really build up to working well together and eventually not being able to see life without each other. as always, i adore katherine center’s author’s note, as well as her firm belief in the validity of rom coms, which comes through so strongly in this work in particular (considering it is called the rom-commers and everything LOLL). the one thing that got to me was that i felt like emma and charlie’s life circumstances we’re slightly too tragic in ways that were a little unbelievable — but i guess where else can we have such hardships to learn lessons from except in fiction??

This book let me feel all the feelings a romcom should. I laughed, I cried, I felt butterflies. I have never enjoyed a romcom book as much as I enjoyed this one. From the get go I couldn’t put it down.

I loved this. The characters, the plot, the closed proximity, the fun. Ah! It was so cute. With that said. This is some heavy content. Kathrine Center does not write low stakes. She wants to hurt your feelings and then make it all better again, but trust, you will hurt. It’ll be okay though! It’s absolutely worth it. 

This book ripped out my heart and put it back together. I love Katherine Center’s writing.

  There is a lot to love about this book. The idea of meeting and working with your personal writing hero Charlie Yates on a once in a lifetime script opportunity is fantastic! That said hero doesn’t have any idea you’re coming to work, oh and, stay with him, not so much. This is the start of the Rom Commers. The two protagonists, Emma & Charlie,share an agent/friend who schemes this starting scenario to “help” both. It does not go over well.

 That said, the two leads are fun, there’s a lot of great dialogue, a passionate defense of not only love, but romance and romance writing, some cute moments, and a heartfelt story of loss, family, pain, and love. 

 My only tiny qualm was the story is completely in the hands of our female protagonist Emma, who, often treats us to third wall breaks and has a tendency to get the wrong idea instead of confronting people. Which, fine, is not a huge leap in storytelling, but occasionally I kind of wanted to yell at her. This audio came with a couple of delightful bonus extras. One being an additional scene of a crucial moment but told from Charlie’s point of view. That was something I kind of wished we could have had throughout. Maybe I’ve just gotten used to dual narrative storytelling since I’ve been working my way through several series of romance novels. Whatever the reason, I loved that. The other was a fantastic argument for all the merits of romance novels from the actual author. It was great! Overall, the Rom Commers was a delightful book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
