The writing is beautifully descriptive at times and painfully heartbreaking when describing the harder parts of Joan's upbringing and early life. The author is almost asking you to decide for yourself about the life Joan lived and the decisions she made to lead to her demise.

The overall message is one of a fearlessly feminist character fighting for her own suffering, vengence for her sister, and the loss of everything she had lost along the way.
