This pint-sized book went through the 1938 version of going viral via a magazine story, later published as a bestselling book and was promptly banned in Germany.

This is the fictional story of two good friends from Germany; one, Max who’s Jewish, stayed in America, and the other, Martin, returned to Germany for business. They began writing colorful friendly letters back and forth. Max started to get concerned, then appalled, at Martin’s strong and offensive support of Nazism. Martin even called Hitler Germany’s “Gentle Leader”.

Even in such a short book, it shows in many ways how words are a powerful weapon of influence. We are seeing something similar in 2021 regarding over a dozen subjects. The issues are either claimed to be overstated or are nonexistent.

The ensuing fracturing of a long-time friendship is a painful one to witness, and leads to a stunning conclusion. A remarkable effort by the author in 1938 was stunningly accurate. Make sure you read the afterward as well!
