I had some trouble getting into this book and had a couple of "false starts" (ha ha, I made a reference). I don't think it's unusual for the first book in a series to be a bit tough at the start, that's not a new experience for me. She did hit the whole get them with the first line mark, just meandered a bit as she introduced her characters. Once I did get into it, I found it enthralling and finished it quickly; high marks from me. I'm looking forward to the next one. It should be noted that the book is set in Montreal and I am FSL and and fan of Quebec, so I think that made me like it more.

This was an amazing storyline and was a complete thriller all the way until the end!! Nice that the author knows Montréal really well and it shows in the story with the various neighborhoods and their essence showing. Also quite detailed was the medical information regarding how investigators use the remains to tell the brutal stories of how the people passed and the age and gender of the victims. I’m definitely reading the next book in the series and I know I have found my next favourite new author!!

Pretty much what you want out of a crime mystery novel, however: Temperance Brennan is not a very good friend, and she's a bit selfish. Kind of makes it hard to latch onto her character. Though one could argue it makes her a more realistic protagonist and what we seek in fiction is not ourselves but a glorified fictional version of ourselves etc.
