Brooks has been a bit of an idiot where Darcy is concerned. He leapt before he looked and just assumed she had taken the bribe offered by his father. But when he finds out she refused the cash, well he feels a bit of a heel. He tries to get in her good graces sending flowers and such but his father, who finally seems to be re-entering the land of the caring father thanks to a certain former nanny, tells him to apologise in person. On his way to see Darcy he sees her being mugged and runs to the rescue. Darcy cannot believe that Brooks saved here. After the way he broke her heart, she is not sure she wants anything to do with him any more. She is stressed planning her sisters wedding, dealing with her sisters future father in law and his creepy henchmen. But when she later hears something she shouldn't she calls on Brooks firm to help her. I loved the way that Darcy realises why Brooks went a bit OTT in the assumptions he made and can forgive him, but she is not ready to offer up her heart on a silver platter just yet. She wants to get to know Brooks again. Brooks for his part knows he has been a prize idiot and is happy to take it slow if that's what Darcy wants. Great dollop of danger, creepy henchman, bomb plots and general mayhem. Loves the way the wedding of our previous couple was woven through the book and became a way to keep contact so that the team wouldn't be discovered investigating! Pacing a wee bit slower than previous books but still highly enjoyed it!
