“it wasn’t real. there isn’t a ghost haunting cashore. only memories. i cling to these statements like they’re a life raft and if i let go, the churning sea will drag me under.”

there’s this distinction between the definitions of scary and creepy in my head. scary feels more like the jumpscares and the sudden burst of sounds. on the other hand, creepy is ... the surroundings being so silent, almost as if it’s being sucked by the nothingness. this book is the latter. it is creepy, incredibly atmospheric, and thrilling. every element works together so perfectly—from the point of view being first person to the straightforward yet not boring narrations. i love! my first read from this genre and i’ll surely be reading more.
