Three years before our story began an unlikely party formed. The story of how Sanzo, Goku, Gojyo, and Hakkai met is revealed at last -- violence drew them close, but something far more powerful kept them together. Now with bonds forged in insecurity and despair, our party is trapped in an undergound youkai den with a malicious female demon. Her interest lies with Sanzo, but her strength lies with her poison ... and her ability to make it linger.

A set of twins catches our heroes by surprise and trap Goku and Hakkai in their magical gourd. Sanzo and Gojyo set off on a journey to find the twins and free their friends and discover that the twins are working for a mysterious figure who is due for some punishment. Will their justice be swift enough or will they have to swallow a bitter pill?

Sanzo is hurt when Shuei, a monk from his past under a terrible curse, brutally attacks Sanzo's team.

Sanzo's life is on the line. He is stranded in the desert with no way out as Goku desperately searches for a way to save Sanzo from the poison coursing through his veins. An unlikely run-in with Kougaiji offers a possible cure. If Kougaiji is defeated, Sanzo may live. But the sacrifice of Goku's sanity may be too high a price to pay. After all, if Goku saves Sanzo, who will save Goku?

Feeling down in the dumps about losing in the battle against "God," Goku attempts to raise everyone's spirits with a game of Mahjong. After winning match after match he scolds them all to snap out of it and shape up, and they end up playing a whole day straight. Ready for another round, the gang approaches "The God's Castle", where they run into a bit of trouble with talking toys but the gang is in no mood to play... they're ready to up the ante!

Sanzo, Goku and Hakkai are out to find "God"--and Gojyo. At the same time, Gojyo climbs the seemingly endless stairway to heaven and is assailed by a maternal monster. The gang finally catches up to Gojyo but the battle has just begun. The war with "God" erupts as the quarrelling quartet must finally put everything behind them and focus on defeating this dangerous deity.
