Keep Me Safe A Slow Burn Novel
Reviews

** spoiler alert ** Very action packed and suspenseful, yet the main characters came together after like two days, and so many moments felt cliche. I kept thinking there would be more depth given the trauma the MC had gone through.

Good story line but I’m not a fan of the writing style. Personally, the conversations amongst the characters was too formal, not “real” enough for me.

The writing was good apart from the romance part like it was too fast and at first I did not see the connection between the two protagonists, it did not feel right but I kept going because of the suspense and it was pretty well-written

I spent a week reading Maya Banks novels and am just now adding them to Goodreads, oh well.

I am familiar with Maya Bank’s work, as such I was excited to receive a copy of Keep Me Safe in exchange for an honest review. Keep Me Safe is a fast paced read that will keep you on the edge of your seat as you nervously turn the pages. This is a story that, will have you guessing as to what is lurking between the pages. Character Development in relation to the main characters, Caleb Devereaux and Ramie St. Clair was ok, but that in respect of the villain was non-existent. There was no background information and I did not have a clue as to who he was until the story ended. I had no idea what makes him tick and why he had become such a vicious killer. No clues were provided as to his reason for targeting his victims. The one thing that is obvious is that he is smart his attacks are well thought out. He is always one step ahead of law enforcement officers. My first impression of Caleb was unflattering. I found him to be selfish and callous in his treatment of Ramie. He is so focused on finding his sister that he is willing to do so at any cost, even if it meant hurting an innocent person. He, however, managed to redeem himself when he made every attempt to protect Ramie from the clutches a maniacal killer. Ramie lived a life that is constantly filled with images of violence as a result of her psychic abilities. She never experienced any normalcy in her life due to her abilities. She was abandoned as a child and grew up in the foster system where she was ill-treated. She was of the belief that she could never have a long lasting relationship as her abilities would get in the way. I was not too impressed with her constant diatribe of how she was not brave. It made her appear weak and pathetic. The romance between the main characters is lacking, which is typical of the romantic suspense genre. Keep Me Safe is a fairly good start to the Burn Me series. Although it was not what I expected due to its lacking the important elements that would make it an excellent read, I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Overall, this was an ok read. If you love stories that keep you on the edge of your seat then you will like Keep Me Safe.

Keep Me Safe is the beginning of the Slow Burn Series. I love psychic elements in romance books, so it was a given that I would like this book at least a little. This was a very intense story. More time probably should have been spent on those parts of the story that were so intense with less time spent on dialogue which repeated things that had already been said. Aside from those issues, this was a very interesting and well-written story. I'm anxious to read In His Keeping.

This is my first Maya Banks book so I can’t compare it to her other novels. I think her writing style is decent and her smut scenes are nice, but I had issues with the actual story. I like the idea of a psychic mentally suffering when she helps abduction cases, and I thought Banks’ description and explanation through Remi’s ordeal was a good touch. However, the instant love for both characters made me cringe. Yes, they met a year ago, but they had a single interaction and it was with Caleb forcing Remi to help him find his sister. Remi has had, like, 0 human relationships because of her gift (curse?) and she spends a day with this dude and loves him. Same for him. -insert eyeroll-

Keep Me Safe is supposed to be a romantic suspense book but I didn't find it very romantic or suspenseful at all. This story is a little bit slower than other books books I have read by Maya Banks but the story was good and I loved the paranormal side of this book. It did keep me reading and all in all it was well written but I just wish there was more suspense. I give this 3 out of 5
