A little more slow than the first one **Spoiler** they mainly are running throughout the entire book but it's still really interesting and keeps you engaged. I spent most of my Saturday reading this.

This series is so strange because the story feels like it could all be one book but like there’s so much that happens that I can see why it was split up. Also can Chloe and Derek just admit they’re in love because 👏🏻girl 👏🏻you👏🏻in👏🏻love👏🏻

Kelley Armstrong continues her mind capturing Darkest Powers trilogy in The Awakening. Chloe Saunders, a fifteen year old new to her powers as a necromancer, was betrayed to the Edison Group at the end of The Awakening. While there Chloe learns she and her friends are genetically altered supernaturals, part of an experiment called Genesis II.

Armstrong continues the adventures of Chloe and the runaways from Llye House, creating a convincing love triangle between Chloe, and brothers Simon and Derek. With souped up, and out of control, powers, Armstrong writes the puberty experience from hell. 

The Awakening is as creative as The Summoning and combines theories of magic and science. Armstrong brings werewolves, vampires and magicians to life in a new way; a hard thing to do in the current Twilight crazed environment. Armstrong manages to assign adult duties to a group of teenagers who want nothing more than acceptance, and she does it without giving them delusions of grandeur.

The relationship between Chloe and her friends develops better in The Awakening. Better friendships are formed and more background on the others, Simon, Derek and Tori, is developed. There is also some background for Chloe's supernatural family history.

Like The Summoning (see review), the Awakening ends with an slight twist, and with Chloe and her friends unaware of where they are heading. The Darkest Powers trilogy concludes in The Reckoning (see review).
