4 stars. I first met Phryne Fisher on the TV Series "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries" that is shown on PBS (& Netflix) in my area. I loved the series, so I picked up the audiobook which is read by Stephanie Daniel. I was apprehensive to start reading the book, because of the negative reviews stating the TV Show is better! I shouldn't of worried - the book is as good and the narrator is excellent with all the accents and characters she has to portray.
This book takes place in the 1920s. Phryne is a wealthy, intelligent, adventurous, and currently bored English socialite who was born in Australia but later studied and lived in England and Europe. In this book she returns to AUS to try her hand in detective work.
A fun book, a fun heroine. She is a socialite who carries a revolver, drives a sports car, has loyal employees/friends who are defiantly not in her class strata. And she loves handsome, sexy men.

But I loved it: the different characters, the two sides of Melbourne and a good storyline :)

3.5 stars for being a cut above any other "cozy" mystery I've read. Cleverly written with a real talent for capturing an almost Wodehouse-ian essence of the 1920s.

I was really not expecting to enjoy this so much. This was cosy and lovely but also filled with snark, spice, and a sexy, strong female lead. Bring on the rest.

This is more 3.5 than 4 stars, I think, but it is quite an entertaining read.

Phryne is a woman who knows poverty, but also knows how easily on can aquire money in the right circumstances. Street wise to the point of embarrassing everyone around her, she waltzes in to save the day on many occasions.

Definitely not a cozy mystery, too much sex and drugs and Phryne is no lame duck heroine. I think the only thing that rally irked me about the book was that there were many explanations of the dinner parties and scenery that seemed to drone on after it as time to end. Otherwise it was a lovely book that actually had me look up some words and phrases. Nicely done for the first in a series.

This book is slightly different to the TV Show, Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries, however it still has a certain charm about it. 

The plots are similar however the book focuses more on what Miss Fisher is wearing and her analysing Melbourne's elite. It's a good read, however I do believe this may have been outdone by the ABC television show. Which is a shocker, I know. 

Miss Fisher has been tasked to trace down another's daughter to ensure she is safe, find an illegal abortionist who butchered a young girl, befriend her future companions and employees, take down a large cocaine empire and walk around in fabulous attire while romancing strange men. 

A good read for someone who found the show good to watch!
