This second book was everything I wanted it to be. 
It was action-packed, the character development was good, the continuation of the story was gripping and I love the turn it took.
The addition of new POVs was a big plus for this book and made it more interesting than the first, which for me was worth a higher rating.

           This was not nearly as good as the first book. The author writes from the POV of Gwen very well & the plot is there, but the sections written from other POVs, especially Sam & Connor feel contrived & stereotypical. Sam’s character had been a mystery, stoic, with complexity that has been teased at in the first book. By writing from his view for parts of this book his character devolves into a modern cliché of a knight in shining armor protecting his lady mixed with his best bud a cop. The struggle Conner goes through is a great plot point and very believable for the age, but again, the way it’s written & delivered just falls flat with over explanation.

Nachdem mich Band 1 der Serie so gepackt hatte, wollte ich unbedingt wissen, wie es weitergeht.

Ein wenig hatte ich befürchtet, dass der zweite Teil sich „verlaufen“ würde und dass sie die Ereignisse nun aus Sicht der einzelnen Personen schildern würde, was immer etwas heikel ist, wenn man zuvor bereits eine starke Stimme entwickelt hat.

Letzteres ist tatsächlich auch der Fall.
Caine wechselt in „Killman Creek“ mehrfach die Perspektive, doch jede Figur trägt einen Teil zum Geschehen bei, d.h. ein Icherzähler hätte die Story nicht komplett erfassen können und es wäre nicht schlüssig gewesen. Im Großen und Ganzen konnte sie die unterschiedlichen Charaktere recht gut eingefangen und sie hat – was ich sehr gut finde – auf die Innenschau des Antagonisten verzichtet. Allerdings ist ihr Sam nicht ganz so überzeugend gelungen. Seine Persönlichkeit bleibt farblos, wenig abgrenzbar von Gwen.

An Spannung steht dieses Buch dem ersten Teil in nichts nach. Wir steigen sofort voll ein, ohne Vorlauf, ohne lange Rückschau – man sollte also Band 1 gelesen haben, um Band 2 zu verstehen.
Der Spannungsbogen wird kontinuierlich aufgebaut und es gibt den ein oder anderen Twist, der selbst mich überrascht hat.
Wie erwartet kommt es am Ende zum großen Showdown, der jedoch noch Platz für weitere Geschichten lässt, die vermutlich im dritten Teil, der für Dezember 2018 angekündigt ist, aufgegriffen werden.

„Killman Creek“ ist eine überaus gelungene Fortsetzung von „Stillhouse Lake“.

If I thought the first book was awesome, this one went above and beyond. Now we get 4 POVs. The mom, the daughter, the son, and Sam. Having kids might be a blessing but, in stories like this one, they are dangerous. The mom was trying to protect them all and they did everything they could, and then some more, to get in trouble and almost get everyone killed. It took one very fake video for them to call their mom a lier, manipulative B-word. From the first book you see this strong woman, training herself to survive, to care for her kids, to protect them and she does the unthinkable for them and they stopped trusting her in less that what it took you to read this review. That was so irritating, but her will to survive and her perseverance to get through this horrifying tragedy is what makes this book sooooo good. Everything and everyone is against her but that doesn’t stop her.

Killman Creek picks up right where Stillhouse Lake left off. Gwen and Sam are ready to hunt down her vile husband and put an end to the terror once and for all. The second installment takes on a bit more of the traditional thriller vibe. Reader’s are taken through Gwen and Sam’s eyes as they hunt down Melvin. We learn clues as they do leading up to the end. We also get a peak into Laney and Connor’s life through new narrators. I enjoyed this addition and think it added nice depth to the book.

I expected a lot from this book based on how much I enjoyed Stillhouse Lake. Killman Creek is still very very good (and I reccomend it if you liked the first book), but rated this book 3/5 stars for a few minor points. I’ll try to explain my frustrations without giving anything away. The first is a plot twist involving Gwen. I felt like it was included more to provide shock and keep the reader guessing (even though, to me, it was obvious what was happening) rather than move the story forward. The second involved Brady/Connor. I suppose this is a way an 11 year old would react to the circumstances, but I became frustrated with the amount of emphasis placed on it. Connor was raised very differently than a normal kid, and I can’t help but wonder if he would therefore not react like a normal kid. Again, this did not really help move the story forward, and I felt like there were other ways it could have been expanded upon that were left alone.

Overall Killman Creek is exhilirating, suspeseful, and engaging. If you enjoyed the first book in the series, I think you will be pleased with the sequal. The narrators added to this book did a great job at portrayng all the characters. I liked being able to see through more than one viewpoint and having additional voices for all of these really gave an added bonus to listening to the story.

Southern Today Gone Tomorrow

The sequel to Stillhouse Lake, Killman Creek picks up shortly after where the last novel ended. Gwen and Sam have the kids in an undisclosed location and Melvin is on the loose. This time, though, Gwen and Sam are taking the fight to him.

This novel wasn't as captivating as the last novel. The buildup in the first novel really helped to cement the characters, and in this one I just kept getting annoyed at how dumb the children were. Both of them. Not to mention those protecting them.

Why can't people trust Gwen? Sam at least is understandable. He still stands by her, even if he sort-of doesn't believe her. The others though? Really?

Another well written novel, this book really makes it feel like a close to the story. The next novel I think we see Gwen switch from reacting to, possibly, protecting other.

If you enjoyed the first novel, if you enjoy psychological thrillers, this is a good novel for you.
