Good but this "I cant do this because you're a vampire" fucked up. But overall good stories, I'm really curious what will happen in the next book

** spoiler alert ** i was catfished by great fanart and the promise of an enemies to lovers vampire-lovestory - instead i got this MESS. sadly, i couldn't get myself to finish this and gave up halfway through the novel. this has to be one of the laziest world-building i've ever encountered, and the most one-dimensional characters, too. every instance of plot/world building was just a device to rush into smutty scene after smutty scene (and they weren't even good!). the way their sexual relationship also borders on non-consentual - and the fact that it is so normalized, too - is revolting. there was barely any/no instance of the MC ever putting up a conflict with anything that he did, despite her consciousness saying otherwise - which is just bad writing imo. my biggest pet peeve about the book was honestly how contradictory everything the main character did was. she cannot tell me she hated vampires all her live but then INSTANTLY agree to marry the man who threatens war against her people. yeah, a big no for me.

this book started off with so much promise but honestly got so bad I skimmed the last 2 chapters just to finish it. the storyline is good and has loads of potential but there are some key issues:

a) the magic system/vampire lore is not fully established at any point

b) the story of isolde being yesenia comes completely from no where in the last 50 pages and feels v unsupported and confusing

c) the book seems to hinge on the (well written but repeated) sex scenes

overall this book started to feel like a chore and, as if knowing I had moaned to my SO about the lack of plot, tried to pack a full books worth of plot in the last 50 pages

The first chapter of this book was amazing, I knew I would love this book from the very first line

I know this wasn't the most well written book I've read but the characters were really likable, the plot was decent and the smut was really good, Adrian is a truly underrated book boyfriend. I wouldn't really call this book enemies to lovers because the main characters fucked after three chapters but it was still great

The plot twist was a little predictable but maybe it's because I read another book with the same kind of plot twist ? (Kingdom of the cursed)

I’m not usually a fantasy fan, but Scarlett St. Clair got my full attention. This book, and her Hades x Persephone and the Hades saga series’s, has me hooked from the very beginning. If anyone dares to disturb me while reading her books, they may live to regret it.

Is this everything that I’ve read before? Absolutely. Did I picture Adrian as Eric Northman from time to time? Probably just a little bit but that isn’t important. Scarlett’s writing style is simple, the plot easy to follow and makes for a really easy, fast read. I devoured this book in no time and have no regrets. I will be keeping it on my shelf.

Witches, vampires, & goddesses what more could you ask for?! My only 2 complaints are that Adrian did not have enough scenes in this book and the majority of the action takes place at the end of the book.

A relatively entertaining enemies to lovers story of a princess forced to marry a vampire. Good tension building with a good amount of spice (who am I kidding there was a lot of spice lol). A good beginning for this series with interesting creatures (outside of vampires) and magic. A good fantasy romance worth the read. If you aren't a fan of a touch of plot with your spice then you can skip this one. For me it wasn't a bad read.

DNF.

Haha just no. First of all, the horses names are Shadow and Midnight. That’s the names I would’ve picked had I written a book when I was nine.

Second, if you are looking for tension and slow burn romance this is not it. This is BOOM straight to the point. Which of course is some peoples cup of tea. But the way it was written was just… cringe.

I have read one of St. Clairs books before and did not like it so I’m not super surprised that I didn’t enjoy this. The characters were boring and I couldn’t care less about them. The story was ok I guess but it didn’t get me interested enough to try to make it to the end if the book.

This is my first St. Clair book and I do have to admit I am a fan. This book had all the spice, it had the he loves her first love, it had the vampires, it had the longing from across the room. This book had it all! I think my only complaint would be I got to the last to chapters and finally something actually happened with the action. I felt like all that was being focused on was her internal turmoil of if she loves him or not and smut(which that I’m not complaining about at all). Overall though I really enjoyed it and I’ll be definitely getting the second book when it come out! Spice: 🌶🌶.5/🌶🌶🌶

The ending is not what i expected, not really sure how to feel about it HOWEVER it is beautifully written; the tension, the feelings, the visions are perfectly explained and he is a very smooth talker, cannot wait for the second book.
