Cade. What an absolute sweetheart. Typically, when you read MC romance, a lot of the heroes are just complete assholes, but not Cade. Cade is sweet, loving, kind and very protective over what is his. Indy. Man, Indy is probably one of my favorite heroine characters ever. She is 100% sassy and will tell you where to go. She has been through so much throughout her life and experience so much heartache and loss that you literally feel all her emotions jump off the page when you read her part in the book. This story really hit home for me. I really connected with it and understood where both Indy and Cade we’re coming from. I was really rooting for them throughout the entire book, yet you couldn’t help but feel the hard ache and pain that both of them felt. Overall I really enjoyed the story you could tell with the two of them there is a lot of heartache and pain throughout their entire lives as well as what they went through with kids. The one thing I was a little weirded out by it was that they were kind of like childhood lovers. You can tell and you know that these two are best friends and thick as thieves, but it just felt strange as they didn’t start actually dating until they were Juniors in high school. I definitely expected that they would’ve started dating away earlier just based on how the story was going. Other than that, I really enjoyed this book a helluva lot and I am excited to read book two. I’m giving this a solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars.

King of Mayhem is the first book of the Kings of Mayhem series. I saw this book on Netgalley and I was really intrigued by the synopsis and lately I have been in the mood for MC romances (not sure why) but I really was also in the mood to try out a new author, I don't do it too often and Penny Dee is definitely a new to me author. I would like to point out that this book contains a cliffhanger and even though I HATE cliffhangers, I will mention that the cliffhanger in this story is not around the relationship, that has a more HFN feeling, but there are other events that leaves you hanging and I am curious on how the next book will develop.

Cade and Indy have been in love since they were children. They were next door neighbors, grew up together, protected each other and were each other's firsts. They also both were raised in the Kings of Mayhem MC. They had every hope for the future, but right when they were ready to go to college, Cade and Indy were broken apart and Indy left home and the man she loved and became a highly respected ER Doctor. But when her father dies, she comes home for his funeral and is thrown back in the world she had tried to forget and also and has to face up to Cade once more, the man she never stopped loving.

I was really on board with these two, although I did find that Indy was way judgmental and I didn't care for her character too much to be honest at least until the end there. I found the story to be a quick  and easy read, and I did like Cade quite a bit. He never gives up on fighting for Indy and what they have always had together. I really adored his determination but there is quite a bit of lessons that Indy has to learn and to overcome her own mistakes and judgments. But I am curious to see what will happen in book two. *crossing my fingers* I will enjoy seeing these two again and may it not have another cliffhanger and will be a winning conclusion.

Overall Opinion:
Falling for the girl next door is never easy especially when a dire mistake changes the lives of Indigo and Cade forever. The opening sequence left me on the edge of my seat. It was an unexpected surprise that helped showcase the close, heartwarming relationship between the two childhood friends turned lovers. The narrative alternative between the heroine and hero from past to present, and was a great way to present how and when they fell in love, and most importantly, how it all fell apart. The overall premise is about second chances and learning to forgive. 

The story follows the main heroine journey back home. With the sudden passing of Indigo estranged father, she finds herself back home in Mississippi for his funeral after running away from all whom she loved: family, friends and Cale. Lingering feelings, accidental touches and misunderstandings push and pulled the hero and heroine together. Knowing their days together are numbered, Cale is doing everything in his power to gain her forgiveness and despite the twelve long years of silence, she has always been his endgame. It has always been her. Only her. And he's ready to show that to her.

The general flow and pace of the story was ideal, the characters were likeable and nothing seemed forced. There is definitely more to the story than meets the eye and the only negative I can point out is that I really had wished the writer would have explained the reason behind Cale's father actions and why he caused the rifted between the main characters. Maybe he was just being a dick which is a trend I've noticed from a lot of the older secondary characters in the story minus grandma because she's badass or is there an actually reason behind everything? Maybe I'm just looking way too much into it!

Overall, with this being the first Penny Dee novel and book one of the “Kings of Mayhem” series I've read, I am highly impressed. I look forward to reading more of her works and the upcoming sequel of this fantastic book! Additional to that, the novel ended in a high note with an unexpected cliffhanger and I can't wait to read what happens next!

Now she’s back in town for her father’s funeral, and all these feelings he’s been running away from for the past decade are rushing back. Indy, on the other hand, wants nothing more than to get this visit over with as soon as possible and get back to the successful life in the big city she built for herself after leaving the MC family behind. 

Unlike most of MC romances, Kings of Mayhem concentrates almost entirely on the love story, which spans across over 20 years. The author uses retrospect to show the key moments in the lives of Indy and Cade that made them who they are today, and nurtured the overwhelming love they have for each other.

Still, there is so much angst and suspense, that it’s just impossible to put this book down. You’ll find yourself rooting for the main characters and reliving their heartbreaks with them.

This is a second chance romance. H cheats on h. I thought he groveled pretty well. He truly loved the h. There is a cliffhanger at the end I didn’t like it. It felt like it was thrown in last minute to make a second book. The next book is about the same couple.
