I found this book on one of my many trips to McKay’s Used Bookstore to see their historical romance selection. I’ve never heard of this author, but the cover looked interesting AND the synopsis seemed like something I would like so I brought it! I’m so happy I did because this book dragged me out of my reading slump that was about to get really bad. None of the books I was reading were interesting me (I read multiple books at the same time so it was like 3 of them😂) and I really didn’t want to get into a reading slump.

So I do what I usually do and ignore all my currently reading books and start a brand new book. This book was so amazing! It was about a male hero who just needed someone to love and care for him and a heroine who had the extra emotions to give to him. Sin, our hero, had a horrible upbringing and was moved between England and Scotland and never felt like he belonged in either place. Caledonia, our heroine, knew she had to marry to make her king happy and help her clan, but she didn’t know what she was getting into with Sin.

I like how they didn’t marry right away and you could see them interact with each other so Caledonia could see under the hard exterior, Sin was a kind man who had been dealt a horrible hand in life. (Also Caledonia’s last name, MacNeely, is almost spelt and sounds like my last name so I liked her even more.) After reading this book, I can’t wait to read more of this author and to read the rest of the books in this series.

I love tortured heroes, I love a kick-ass heroine that can hold her own, I love a good combination of angst and humor but somehow I felt like this book was lacking. It was a lot fluffier than what I imagined it to be like. Sin's past was very interesting and I was hoping for more depth. This was my first book from this author so I probably would not have been as disappointed had I been more familiar with her writing style beforehand.
