Fun premise but nothing particularly interesting, to me, happened. Peculiar style shift in the last 1/8 of the book, became very poetic and mystical but felt out of place with the rest of the book.

this was a very interesting and bizarre read. where it is particularly successful is impressing upon the reader a sense of doom, of a species existing out of joint and dying.

i am not sure i connected with it quite as intended but i am glad i read it, regardless.

While this book has its flaws (it is a first novel, after all), the fantasy of the monster dogs and the emotion with which Bakis imbued her characters were transporting and affecting.
