As a Goonies fan and a semi frequent visitor of Oregon, I found this book engaging and hilarious from start to finish. The landscape and landmarks are recognizable. The weird love/hate relationship between the fans and the town is there. But there is also this added haunted gloom that reminds me of Crystal Cove from Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated (2010-2013).

I love the artwork and the characters are adorable, but this is very chaotic. It looks like someone tried to assemble the storyline in comic form as they would in a film or TV production, and it just doesn’t work out as well.

But those characters!! With a little streamlining and tidying up, I can see this becoming a favorite.

As it is, it’s a 2 1/2 STARS for me.

Dot, Karma, Wylder and Macy are four young girls looking for anything interesting in their once famous town. Indeed Canon Cove lost its shininess decades after a famous movie was shot there. But as one of the inhabitants dies they discover that the town could have its own treasure.

This first volume is really good : first the pace is perfect, the way they find the map to the treasure doesn't seem like out of nowhere. They, as a group, are looking for clues. They all have different skills to help find it.
With that the characters are all so different, representing a wide range of characteristics. The art is great with perfect coloring to create a mood and set.

If you like adventure it's perfect for you.
