Hunger is a painful novel in that you find yourself hoping for the best and finding that while your protagonist does as well he endlessly tortures himself.

Deliliğin sınırlarında gezen kahramanımızın yokluğun her türlüsünü yaşarken bile içinde hala iyiliğin, gururun kalmış olmasını hem şaşırarak, hem üzülerek hem de umutla okudum. Zaman zaman Don Quijote’yi anımsattı, Ylajali de Dulcinea’yı. Okunması gereken güzel bir klasik.

Dated in terms of the content but I have to commend the writing style and the translation—very vivid imagery of a man falling into insanity

I really enjoyed the the writer's style- stream of consciousness kinda storytelling. As much as I enjoyed it, it was also a little confusing at some parts.

Incessant rationalisation and validation yet the inability to act forcefully or consistently. Suffocated under the mass of inner thoughts, a self-imposed exile from the world and reality. A mind untethered and raging.

What a fantastic piece of Literature. I had read the Malayalam translation back in school days, but the English version bowled me over once again. One of my favourite novels of all time, I guess this one belongs to the all-time top 10.

First of all this book is a tough read. It talks about the spiraling to the bottom of poverty and of one self in such a real way it gives you the frills and lets you sulking in thought for days to come. You will never see homeless people in a common/indifferent way again. 

The prose is magnificent. The character is a mix of Palahniuk meets Kerouac and written by Dostoyevsky and Gogol. Just beautiful and brilliant.

It's so amazingly written and so witty that is hard to believe it's a book from the 19th century!

The writer doesn't go into deep description of the setting, although the story takes place in Oslo, which gives it a wider opportunity to focus on the mental development of the character. 

I found out about Knut on an exhibition at the Tate in London, and although I lived in Oslo, had never heard about him! ..... Norsk folk, you need to make a massive statue of the man!
