Having read Kody Keplinger's The Duff I kinda knew what to expect from this book, which is an amazing story narrated beautifully, but even then I was not prepared for Shut Out. 

Shut Out is kinda of a modern Lysistrata, where women decide to abstain from hooking up with their boyfriends until they end the rivalry between them. 

Shut Out was very open about the topic of sex, but Kody Keplinger manages to talk about it an empowering way and that women should not be ashamed of talking about it. Which is true, there wouldn't be as much abortions and unwanted pregnancies if there was more knowledge about it and it was talked more openly instead of looking down on women for thinking about such things. 

Shut Out is highly entertaining, especially reading about the guys and girls fighting each other and it definitely deserves to be read.

It's a light and fluffy book that's fun to read and has frank discussions on slut shaming, gender roles, sex and double-standards. But the book as a whole,, while fun to read, felt a little pithy or something. Maybe it didn't seem cool that the only solution to get their voices heard was by using their bodies to hold a sex strike. But at the same time, I think girls need to read this too. 3.5 stars.

This was my type of book. That's all that needs to be said. 
Shut Out was refreshing book as far as any realistic fiction goes. And lately I have been reading a lot of it but they all have been clean romances whereas Shut Out dealt with the more mature side of teen romances.

The thing that I love about Kody Keplinger is that she isn't afraid to tackle the topic of sex in her books. For example in her previous novel The DUFF Keplinger's main character used sex as an escape and now in Shut Out it has translated into a war. Because really that whole book is driven by the fact that the girls won't have it and how the boys REALLY want it. 

Things that I thought were so brave were some of the girls like Kelsey, Mary and Chloe. They all had something to say about sex and they all said it. Kelsey didn't really enjoy sex as much as she thought she should have, Mary was a virgin and Chloe liked sex way TOO much. Still I think that Chloe had to be the best female character in the whole book. She said what she thought and wasn't ashamed to admit to loving sex even if people called her a 'whore' and a 'cock tease'. I actually liked her much more than Lissa the books main protagonist.

Speaking of Lissa I did like her at the start of the story but as it progressed she got a bit whiney. Despite becoming a bit to neurotic she redeemed herself in the end. And her chemistry with Cash was...well...Woah!

Cash made me melt. He was sweet, hot and just down right drool-worthy at the same time. There was no point in the book were I got angry or annoyed with him. Unlike Randy who in the end got what was coming to him.

This book honestly cracked me up the whole time I was reading it. I had never heard of the author before but the cover and the hilarious synopsis intrigued me so I decided to pick it up. I loved the competition between the two teams and the extremes the guys and girls went to when trying to play pranks on each other and the guys trying to get their girlfriends to hook up with them again. Fast, funny read that I really enjoyed.

I think I just found my cure for a reading slump. I think I need a YA contemporary binge. And this book help see that. 
I really liked this book because it was light buy still had a good message in it. Though I did have a problem with Lissa, I found her really annoying even though her intentions were good (most of the time). I also kept thinking that Lissa was a 'dumb blonde' (which is far from the truth) but during the last 50 pages it's mentioned that she has black hair! I sat there for a good 5 minutes trying to picture it and it didn't happen. Sorry Lissa but your a blonde to me.
I really hope to read more of Kody Keplinger's books in future :)
