honestly, this was me. I truly detested the constant need to slip into long digressions. Sure almost all of the characters were absolutely terrible, I've had my fair share of books where the characters weren't likeable, or where things take a perverse turn, but having to go into these long tales that are half truth half fictionalised, this just wasn't for me. At one point, the constant tangents felt suffocating, even though there were efforts to reel in the tale within a tale to the actual tale.

Had it not been for this forced narrative, this truly could've been a beautifully written book.
