The main problem with this book is that the plot is drawn out through the lack of communication between Karma and her parents. Were it a little tighter, it would have been a funny and memorable tale.

Great book for upper primary as they move into middle school. Realistic setting and interestingly diverse characters, including (FINALLY) someone from a culturally mixed marriage and also (FINALLY) dealing with father job-loss while mother picks up the employment pieces.
And then of course there is all the teenage drama of friends gained and lost. All in all a solid story. 
My only small qualm is that I worry that reading it would make some students more aware of the facial (and other) hair of some of their classmates whereas it may not have otherwise been an issue.
