Book #51 Read in 2017 The Crossover by Kwame Alexander This book is so much more than a sports novel for young adult readers. Told in verse, this book tells the story of Josh, a middle school basketball player dealing with a lot of emotional issues in his life. His twin brother has just started dating his first girlfriend, his father is sick....and Josh does not know how to always handle his emotions in the proper way. This book is a powerful read and will resonate with high school readers as well as adult readers. I see myself recommending it to my students in the fall.

I don't like sports books or poetry but that was so good, I am actually crying rn.

Wow. Heartbreaking and very powerful. Amazing characterization, rhythm and depth.

If you love the game and you love families that love the game and you love brothers who try so hard to grow up and stay together and fall apart and find each other again, and you love parents who do the right things for love and the wrong things for fear, then this one's for you.

Do yourself a favor and read as much of it as you can out loud. The words are just too fun in your mouth. But it's okay, you'll get to the parts you can't read out loud because you'll be crying. Accept it. Grab the tissues, and keep reading.
