As soon as I saw the cover for this book I had to read it. The illustrations are gorgeous, somehow capturing the eeriness of Edward Gorey's pen and ink drawings, but in full, glorious color. The book follows the Liszt family who makes lists, "Lists most usual, And lists most unusual--I laughed out loud when the grandfather makes a list of his greatest admirers and most fearsome enemies and "The cat did the same."

When a visitor arrives, he makes friends with the middle child (who has a list of questions to ask) and the family learns that sometimes life has unexpected happenings that can't be contained by a list.
