Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz by L. Frank Baum is the fourth book in the original Oz series. It is set recently after the April 18, 1906 in the East Bay. The journey this time to Oz will be by way of an underground

Dorothy has come on the train from San Francisco having returned the United States after her time in Australia. Her plans are to spend the night at Hugson's Siding with distant relatives and then catch the train back to Kansas.

This is the fourth book in the Oz series and follows Dorothy and her cousin after an earthquake send them into a world inside the Earth. They then have to find their way back home.

Unfortunately, this wasn't my favorite in the series. I would say that it felt like random things were happening with no overall purpose but there are other parts in the series that feel that way so I'm not sure why this one wasn't clicking as much with me. I did really like the first place they ended up in because it was made of glass and sounded so beautiful and interesting. I also liked seeing Dorothy meet her old friends from previous books again.

           This was my least favourite Oz book so far. As with the previous book, it took a long time - almost the whole book in this case! - to actually read Oz, and so the only character (other than Dorothy) we know from before to feature significantly was the Wizard. Who is arguably the fullest of all characters, as anyone else familiar with the original Wizard of Oz understands.

From doing some research, the reason for this is because Baum has resigned himself to writing the series, so he was trying to have his cake and eat it by writing a Oz book without actually writing an Oz book. It's a shame he felt this way, because the moment we got into Oz all the magic for me returned. Sure there were some good ideas in the lead up, but I would have much preferred them to hammer occurred in Oz abs not this subterranean world. It felt more Jules Verne than Baum. Let's just hope this is the low point.
