THis is like SVH meets Dark Shadows. It's too perky to be goth and to goth to be perky and too cheesy to be anything but SVH meets Dark Shadows. Let's face it, those two things define cheesy! That said, it was actually better done than the later written Twilight Series. Though I'm trying to decide who I would want to die more in the cage match: Elena or Bella. Hmmm. Definitely Bella. 

I only gave this three stars because the TV show took this book and improved upon it. I think Elena of the show is far more believable a character and one you feel more drawn to than the Elena of the book.
