I have a soft spot for epistolary novels. I love getting someone’s innermost thoughts in their own words. This book was a hybrid, half epistolary and half regular novel. But it’s all Anne Shirley in all of her glory, enjoying a new home and profession and conglomeration of interesting neighbors. If I had to choose one word to describe this novel, that would would be shenanigans. Seriously, Anne gets into so many uncomfortable, hilarious situations, and witnesses her neighbors getting into even more. While there were a couple of sadder scenes, for the most part this novel is light and fluffy and undoubtedly funny. While not always viewed as a legitimate installment of the Green Gables series (some Kindle collections provide only six installments instead of eight), I think this installment is worthy of its place in the series, and shouldn’t be missed.

Classic Anne humor, but overall a throwaway story.

I enjoy some of the stories in this segment but a lot of it feels like filler and not actually things that influence Anne's life--just other people's lives she observes, and we only sometimes get to hear her thoughts on them if the story is being told through one of her letters. A lot of the characters feel like repeat of characters from her other Anne books and I began to wonder if LM has more than ten archetypes in her repertoire. There were too many whiney/vale-of-tears characters; Nora absolutely drove me bonkers, I could not believe Anne had nothing to say to her like "you need a good spanking" as she has said to other stupid characters. 

Despite all that, however, I still love the writing and some of the characters, like Rebecca Dew and Katherine Brooke, will live on forever in my memories.

Definitely not continuing this series based on how vague this book was. First three books are how i want to remember anne of green gables.

I think I'm done with this series, Anne if Green Gables is wonderful classic but the sequel books just aren't doing it for me. Anne feels like she has lost her Anne-ness with maturity and whilst the writing is still lovely and I can not praise Montgomery enough for her craft, this is no longer for me.

This was by far my least favourite addition to the series so far. There was truly little point to this book, and Anne already felt less joyful to read from. Why certain little stories were included (the chapter about Cousin Ernestine remains the most tiresome section from this book) I’ll never know. I did enjoy the last 50 or so pages again, but the middle of the book truly dragged, especially because the main plot had wrapped up already. Here’s to hoping the next book picks up!

Another lovely Anne book. So funny, sweet, full of real life stories. I adore how some of the characters perfectly - and in an annoying way, represent the real people. SO WELL. You actually can believe they are real.
I miss some of the aspects of previous stories, it´s not as precious as the first two books in the series, it´s definitely more grown up now and Anne is no way a child she used to be, it´s hard to get used to it - and bittersweet too, accepting she is not "forever child" book heroine.
Sadly it´s not really about Green Gables anymore and I missed it SO much even though the new setting was nice, it was kind of flat, not as beautiful as Avonlea. And I also missed some of her friends that were not really present here. But still a heartwarming story you have to love.

Through letters, Anne tells Gilbert Blythe about her new job as principal at Summerside High and her dealings with the town's leading family, the Pringles.

Anne of Windy Poplars' is the fourth book in the ‘Anne of Green Gables’ series. In this novel, 22-year-old Anne has left college to serve as principal of Summerside High School and settles down in Windy Poplars. Anne has to overcome opposition to her presence from an influential family, the Pringles. The Pringles family make it well known she was not what they had hoped for in their new Prinicipal. She also finds new friends in Aunt Kate, Aunty Chatty and Rebecca Dew. This early work by Lucy Maud Montgomery was originally published in 1936 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. Lucy Maud Montgomery was born on 30th November 1874, New London, in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island. Her mother, Clara Woolner (Macneil), died before Lucy reached the age of two and so she was raised by her maternal grandparents in a family of wealthy Scottish immigrants. In 1908 Montgomery produced her first full-length novel, titled 'Anne of Green Gables'. It was an instant success, and following it up with several sequels, Montgomery became a regular on the best-seller list and an international household name. Montgomery died in Toronto on 24th April 1942.
