To be a woman was to watch yourself not just through your own eyes, but through the eyes of others.

We blame the algorithm for our predicament, she thinks, but the algorithm was written by people.

That they have committed no crime is beside the point. In any case crime is relative, its boundaries shifting in service of the people in power.

I have done nothing wrong, Sara thinks. It’s only that the line of legality has moved, and now I’m on the wrong side of it.

i think this was a little heavy handed but i appreciated the commentary on surveillance, carcerality, and so on

The essence of the story was interesting enough to hook me, but the execution was lacking. 

The ending felt rushed, especially since - like I mentioned earlier - so much of the book felt like filler. A lot more of the book could have been used to make the ending less… anticlimactic.

Very repetitive writing, if I didn’t know any better, I would assume it was written by AI. So much of the book felt like filler.

The essence of the story was interesting enough to hook me, but the execution was lacking. 

The ending felt rushed, especially since - like I mentioned earlier - so much of the book felt like filler. A lot more of the book could have been used to make the ending less… anticlimactic.

For the record, it was such a really good starter, the plot and the premise was so promising because it stand for something that I've been wandering quite a lot before, about can people be judged by the way they're thinking or something that they didn't do 'yet'? Whether it's going to happened or not.

The earliest pages was gripping, how the plot was presented, the social critics or commentary of the state of nowadays society, the dystopian that might very much tied close with what happened right now that make me thinking is this might be our future someday, the dependency on the 'algorithm' the said technology that overrule all the logic and human consideration. You thought, it was really an interesting one right?

But then, half through the book, suddenly it shifted to the slowest pace of the history without any particular things happened, and the sudden shift on the narrator from Sara to Julie was bizarre, like it happened then it was forgotten, there's so many thing get teased only to be cut loose and didn't get an elaborate further. Still I could feel of the oppressive feelings given-through this book and it was as uncomfortable that makes me distressed with whatever they're doing over there that I got chill when I started thinking like Elias, resigning to the system, hell nah.

At last, the ending was such a total let down, make me let out a 'Huh? Just like that?' I don't know if it was on purpose to show us not to conform to the system and only by it that we can break free, but honestly if yes then it fall short, because what about the DI then, what about the other inmate? I don't know, all I know I was unsatisfied with the ending.

really haunting and aching and brilliantly written, i am both scared and fascinated by the possibility of dreams being sold and exploited in this way. as someone who is pursuing archival and historical work/studies, the exploration of sara's character and the fragility of memory scratched my brain in such a particular way.
