Karukku

First published in Tamil in 1992, Karukku broke barriers of tradition with its startlingly new language and its shattering attack on casteism by a young Dalit woman. The first such autobiography, Bama's story is a bold account of life outside mainstream Indian thought and function. This enlarged second edition appears twelve years after the publication of the first English translation in 2000.
