Somehow this one did not work for me. 

Still uses that slightly funny while describing some of the most horrendous torture scenes and don't think people are going to be spared when they draw the black beans.

It is disappointing to me that this book didn't live up to Lonesome Dove. I found it a bit boring and the love for Gus and Call, not so much here. Although, I loved getting to know their back story, it really wasn't necessary for Lonesome Dove and I wish that I had decided that before wasting money and time on this one. I am not saying it is bad or you wouldn't enjoy it. But I am not saying it didn't have some major issues. It dragged a lot in the story for me. I just wanted more of angry Call, which was the only moments that I felt my blood pressure rise. In Lonesome Dove, I found myself excited and drawn to all of the characters, not in this one. I found that it was really Call that kept me going. Gus is amusing but annoying, which surprised me because I loved him in Lonesome Dove. But my heart always belonged to Call. The major issue I really had was the way it was written, or rather how poorly it was written. I found myself taken out of the story several times with the jagged sentence structural, or how poorly the sentence was written. It didn't flow easily and I felt that there really needed to be some fine teeth combing going on in this book, that just never happened. 

I think I will stick with my Lonesome Dove and leave the rest alone. *sigh*
