Two things stood out to me the most while reading the exquisite ending that is Rising by Laurelin Paige, character growth and healing. ⁣

The amount of pure emotion that rolled through me while reading this conclusion to the Slay quartet is a bit indescribable. You have two “villains” that are both so complexly broken yet so truly and utterly in love for the first time in their lives, whether it be with each other or the essence of life itself. Character growth doesn’t even feel like it can fully encompass how far both Celia and Edward have come by the end of this book. Not to mention the growth of Hudson. Yes, we get a healthy dose of Mr. Pierce in this one as well. ⁣

We saw a lot of forward movement from Celia in Revenge but the ability to truly heal and move forward happens in a BIG way during Rising. I feel like if you get anything at all from this book when it comes to her you will feel in your bones, without a shadow of a doubt that she is no longer who she used to be. A dragon, a bird, a person able to forgive and find peace. It’s beautiful and fulfilling to see her transform. ⁣

Edward, where do I even begin with him? Acceptance was his healing. You never actually know how much you need it until you have it. The decisions and realizations he made through out this story ranging from his previous life to his present are everything. His family, his thirst for revenge, his need for control, it all comes to a peak in one of the most blissfully tear inducing scenes I’ve had the pleasure to read. He is not only a formidable foe but a man of worth on so many levels. The devil but the hero. The best of both sides.⁣

Rising ties together this series by Laurelin so incredibly well that I couldn’t even think of asking for more. There is part of me that is extremely sad to see Celia and Edward’s story end, it’s easily become one of my favorite series of all time, but damn did it end in the best possible way. Better than I could’ve ever dreamed of.
