It’s a pretty average book. It’s enjoyable but it’s not mind-blowing.

We have Mackenzie – Mac – Austin the fun loving, free spirit everyone wishes to be at 28. She dates to get laid and that’s about it. Until she gets stood up by her gym crush…maybe crush is the wrong word… gym guy that she wishes to see if he does have that V-cut. She taps through a dating app, but doesn’t tap yes on one guy and his picture fades from view.

But then she looks up and he’s sat right next to her. Cue awkward interaction as Thomas Decker – AKA Said Guy From Dating App – saw the whole thing.

And to make matters worse, Monday morning she sees him at work. He’s her new boss. Cue another awkward interaction.

As the weekend approaches, Mac heads off to her friends engagement party where she is made of honour. All is going well until Mac is introduced to the Groom to be’s big brother, yup you guessed it – Thomas Decker.

What are the chances!?

Prepare to fall in love with Mac and Thomas – and even Stephanie and Ethan (Lauren, I want their story!) – and end up ugly crying by the end.

pretty decent at least in comparison to made in manhattan, but it doesn’t near what lauren layne is capable of. mackenzie was awfully immature and i found it hard to believe that she’s a twenty eight year old. she was basically a cookie-cutter of the classic eccentric main character but somehow worse. her only personality traits were being judgmental and having a blue streak of hair. i was irritated throughout the whole book, but the third-act conflict irked me beyond words. it was so pointless and kind of seemed like lauren layne couldn’t come up with anything new, so she just threw that in for the sake of it.
i genuinely believe that this book could have been 200 pages shorter had mackenzie just acted like a full grown adult. it was laughable that watching romance movies with her mom was what caused a sudden change of heart in both her and her mom’s lifelong principles, which they’ve been incessantly reminding us about for the entire book. the ending was also weak and rushed. i know it was supposed to go full circle, but it didn’t feel like the right way to go about it. mackenzie goes to the bar to meet her match on a dating app with the intention to hookup with them but then realises her match was thomas and professes her love for him, and it seemed like she only did so because he was conveniently there. it felt like too easy of an ending—after only receiving in her relationship with thomas, it didn’t seem right to give her the easy way out and was a missed opportunity for a lot more angst and groveling.

overall, this book wasn’t horrible—i like the idea behind it, but i think its execution could’ve been so much stronger had this been proofread and not rushed.
