Requiem

Requiem Delirium #3

Lauren Oliver2013
Now an active member of the resistance, Lena has transformed. The nascent rebellion that was underway in Pandemonium has ignited into an all-out revolution in Requiem, and Lena is at the center of the fight. After rescuing Julian from a death sentence, Lena and her friends fled to the Wilds. But the Wilds are no longer a safe haven. Pockets of rebellion have opened throughout the country, and the government cannot deny the existence of Invalids. Regulators infiltrate the borderlands to stamp out the rebels. As Lena navigates the increasingly dangerous terrain of the Wilds, her best friend, Hana, lives a safe, loveless life in Portland as the fiancée of the young mayor.Requiem is told from the perspectives of both Lena and her friend Hana. They live side by side in a world that divides them until, at last, their stories converge.

Urghhhh! The ending... MAN! I am so, so disappointed BUT I respect the authors choice. And I'm not gonna say much but you should definitely complete the trilogy with this book. Just for the writing style.

Just finished the ARC I received. This was splendid. I don't want to give anything away other than this: 1. We all know Alex comes back. Where do he and Lena end up? What happens with Julian? You will definitely find out. 2. Plot Twists galore. 3. The best written book in the entire series. BEST. So many amazing things about this final book in the trilogy, but I refuse to spoil it for any of you. Just know that you will love this book. 5/5 stars!!!

** spoiler alert ** I loved loved this series... But this wrap up book was a let down. I thought for sure the reviews on this book were just overly harsh... But honestly a lot of them were right. The character development for Julian is just not there and there's so many things that the author could have built on. His character could have been so interesting. Lena was obnoxious at some moments but she wasn't as bad as some people described. Yes yes we all know she lead Julian on throughout the novel... But do any of these kids really know how to deal with their emotions. It's not like they've ever been taught how to get over someone. And Alex.... Ugh. He acted like such an asshat from day one. She thought he was dead. Hell, he probably thought he was dead at the time. Yet he acted like she had personally betrayed him. The most redeeming part of this book was the Hana chapters. I loved her story arc and development. I found myself looking forward to things from her point of view. And the worst part of this all was the book's ending. It ended so abruptly and so quickly. There was no real end to it. It felt like the way I ended my essays in high school, rushed and making little to no sense. This series and the concept of the whole dystopia was so awesome and it deserved a better ending. The only reason I give this book 4 stars is purely from the general concept and not the plot of this novel.

** spoiler alert ** I still loved this book, but not nearly as much as I loved the previous two. It toyed with my emotions a lot and Lena's constantly changing feelings did frustrate me - just choose already! Unfortunately the ending did not satisfy me either! It didn't feel enough like an actual ending, it still feels like there should be a fourth book floating around out there. There seemed to be a lot of pointless aspects to this book too - like was there a need for Coral to even be there? And why on earth did Raven need to die? Not quite sure what the author wanted to state by making this book the way it was, and strangely I found myself much more desperate to find out what happened to Hana rather than Lena(she was a much better character in my opinion). Overall, I can happily say that this is one of my favourite trilogies of all time, but unfortunately, like most, the ending has been a downer.

** spoiler alert ** The last book of the series is finally read and i loved it!!! Except the ending , I loved and did not 😄love the ending Lol , but I’ll talk about it at the end . First let’s talk about the symbolism of this series! So yes, I have Been rereading this series and thinking about this book for days now to write this review and I absolutely loved the synopsis . I loved the fact that it was so much about the freedom (or not) of choice! because yes we fall in love with the characters but it’s more than that, For sure! The thought or the concept of love being a disease and needing a cure was very different and really thought provoking throughout. It not only showed the affects of possibly curing heartbreak from a companion, but how someone would feel with love taken completely away for things and causes. With the cure, people no longer loved their kids, their family, their friends, even their dogs or their love of running like before. They lose the desires they once had because the strong feelings are taken out and it leaves you feeling but, not to its full strength. & well With the cure, the residents were promised safety, the fear of not knowing what the future holds, and stability thru out their life! I mean that’s pretty boring! & well with that come rules, right? We All love rules because it provides structure! But when is it too much??? Well With those many rules in places that everyone had to follow , They were basically Controlled to no end and when they didnt follow, well there was punishment. But without the cure, its “chaos” or so what the president of this U.S. says! But with that “chaos” you get to explore what you like of life and have passion for those things or persons! And well what is the good without the bad? to feel something amazing means at times you have to feel something horrible. You know? Like expect your life to be imperfect because that’s the way it is. We make mistakes and Like Lena said ‘Sometimes you might want to give up and get the cure to stop feeling those feelings.’ Because Life is filled with up’s and downs , not just dull boring flatlined life. And Well yes I just loved this series!! I really did! It had so many good quotes and very eye opening segments that makes you put on your thinking cap! The bad thing that tho , was that they were Taking the beauty of life away from their lives as we know it. And that is just not it people! That is what life is about! Making choices good or bad and living the consequences! And loving /hating things, that is what makes people interesting! So basically that is what I take out of the series , to just cherish the freedom you have been given and just explore to the fullest while you can because the day is not promised. Now ,, onto our characters and what they’re dealing with🫢!!! So in this exactly book, we have Hana’s cured POV and Lena’s uncured POV. This book kind of starts where the previous book :pandemonium , left off! we found out that Alex was indeed ALIVE! He was in the crypts! And also we had another male interest fall into the mix which Lena rescued from Zombie Land🫢😳! We also finally have Lena’s mom show up as well!!! And that brings us into the final battle now with Hanas POV in the mix but from the inside! Now , onto Hana inside of “zombie land”! SO from what we knew in Delirium, she matched with the Mayor’s son! She was supposed to get cured and go to school & then marry Fred Hargrove! Well we get just that! But in this instance , her father in Law is death and now Fred has to be Mayor. And so Hana is feeling guilty of what she did to Lena previous to her cure. So we get to be in her head now, yippee! I thought Hana's POV in this book was really important because we got to see the perspective of someone cured and her realizing that the cure doesn’t make you a different person was the fun part! I loved how she felt guilty of what she did to her best friend Lena and she tried to free herself of that guilt by doing something good for Lena’s family and even though her reasoning or motives weren’t that good, in the end she really did help that family! I just felt sorry for them! (Like how cruel is the world to condemn families because of their relatives actions you know?) But anyways,I mean we know we couldnt expect much of Hana since she was cured already and couldn’t really feel bad but I’m just glad she got to redeem herself to Lena by doing a good cause for her people at least! again, I don’t know if she really felt remorse of what she did ? But we can see that she did have a little consiense ! &In the end ,Instead of her just following the rules of the government and being obedient , she decided to be rebellious and also got her own freedom!!! That was cool! Chiiild , her fiancé got the ending he deserved!!! Just Saying! On the other side, we have Lena with the group of rebels that have the freedom of choice but it still doesn't mean they use it. They have the right to choose to do whatever they want but in reality nothing, because they had to fight for that right. They can not live free unless they fight for it so a large part of her POV is getting plans together to fight back. Sadly not as much is resolved with Alex and Julian as I hoped. Alex is hurt and rightfully so. Lena didn't know he was still alive but I can only imagine how much it would hurt to rot away in prison thinking of your loved one to only get out and see they moved on. A bible story was used as a metaphor for sacrifice and if you should let someone you love go or stay and cause them pain. Mostly I was mad that Lena and Alex never really talked and resolved anything. She ran back to Julian which I thought wasn't fair to him. He is a good guy even if I did want Lena to dump him for Alex. I at least wanted her to be honest. I think Julian was new to love and maybe pushed her feelings away hoping she could just forget about Alex. And well I guess you can say I was a little satisfied with their ending lol. And well as her mothers relationship, I also loved that they got the opportunity to talk and reconnect! I’m a little sad about the others because they kind of deserved a little closing you know? But it’s fine I guess. Ok let’s talk about the ending!!!!!! The ending. I definitely wanted more. Lena makes her feelings clear about who she wants to stay and I liked that! What we really dont know what happens is to her aunt or the others. Like are they ok? Or Hannah for that matter. Did Hana make it to her parents? What happens NEXT!!!!!! I wanted ending for everyone , you know like a happily ever after! So sadly the ending is very open ended but it does end on a hopeful note at least. Im just disappointed for a series with so many huge cliffhangers I wanted more closure. You know? So there is that! So I give this book 4 stars because I don’t really like open endings buuuut since I loved the series, and because of Alex, Lena and Alex getting their HAPPY ENDING , I will give it 5 stars!

I had trouble deciding on what to rate this book. It was a perfectly nice book until the very end. Some people love the ending of this book but I was not one of those. The end is not satisfying. Am I happy I read it? Yes. Do I wish that it didn't just end? YES! What I did like: I liked that this had both Lena's and Hana's perspectives. It gives the reader a good sense of what is happening in both of their world's, not only to them but to the people around them. The writing was great-we all know that Lauren Oliver is a great writer. All in all, I do suggest this book to those who enjoyed the first two but I warn that you will either love or hate the ending.

No me malinterpreten. Loco, no? "Take down the walls". Me dejas UNA PUTA VEZ MS (HOLA BEFORE I FALL); el gusto amargo en la boca de preguntar 'what if?'.

Requiem is the final book in the Delirium series, a trilogy about a future where love is illegal. Lena, Julian and Alex are three of a large group of Invalids, people who have not taken the cure for love and live beyond the fences of civilization. The book is split into two perspectives: Lena and Hana, Lena's best friend from her days as a law-abiding citizen. This can be annoying, as with Pandemonium, but it's just something that you have to get used to. Here, it's more fitting. As the resistance builds, it's interesting to learn about those on both sides of the fence and particularly a character that we know of in some depth already. Requiem could very easily have descended into a book completely about a love triangle. Fortunately, it's not like that. I really admire the way Lauren Oliver keeps the romance subdued in this instalment. There are bigger things to deal with and I'm glad that they are the focus. In terms of plot, it's much more lacking than the first two books. There are definitive plot points, but a lot of middle. There are obviously some character deaths, as with any novel that involves fighting, but the perhaps the most poignant one had little effect on me as it was so near to the end of the book that there was no time to mourn. Nevertheless, I think that's reflective of the situation that Lena is in - there is no time to stop and cry, you just have to move on. I can't say that I didn't like this book, because I did. I thought the ending was good, the characters showed development and the story continued on in a way that is fitting. BUT. I wanted more explanation for a lot of the things that happened, like Hana's revelation about Lena and Alex, like the person Lena chooses in the end and why I didn't feel post-series-sadness after turning the last page. However, I will always love the Delirium series and this book doesn't change that.

Cry Count: 9 Please let her write a short story of what comes after this. Wow. I wasn't too excited about getting the story from alternating points of view, but I was pleasantly surprised. I'm a little disappointed with the ending though. I wanted more closure, more passion between Alex and Lena. ALEX. I missed him. So, so much.
