"Perfect," I say cheerily before sticking out the hand currently unoccupied with my stolen goods. “Im Adena." 

She takes my hand, seemingly shaking it just to humor ne. "Im Paedyn."

"Tm sorry," he starts quietly, "that something of mine has already wounded you."

He manages to lean in farther, murmuring, "You'll have to earn it, honey."

"I started running. I-I didn't know what to do"

“Shh." I run a hand down the length of her curls, feeling a hiccup jostle her body. "You did the right thing. Run to me. Always run to me."

“You see, I'm really much more of a lover than a fighter."

"I know you," he says softly. "And I know that I'm the fighter, and you're the lover.

“Come see me. Please. I don't think I can handle losing both of you."

I didn’t love the flirt I think it was similar to the one in powerless but I felt like it didn’t match the characters.

This was devastating. It was quite short, yes, but it was quite heartbreaking also!

And Mak and Adena. They deserve much more than that !!! I wanted more of them! 

Their story was emotional but I loved them so much and loved how the warmth of Adena reached the grumpy Mak. She was so sweet and he was the grumpy one who just needed her to soften him! LOVED them!! And did I mention that I sobbed at the ending?!!

This short story was so fun. I loved seeing Adena’s side of the story while already knowing Pae’s. Even though I knew how this book ended I still cried. If Mak doesnt appear in book 3 im gonna lose my mind.

such a good novella, it actually had me feeling connected to the characters more than powerless, I loved the romance and the twists, it was so cute seeing a point of view from outside the trials whilst still showing how evil the king was.

I think this may be one of the best novellas I’ve read?! We all knew the outcome yet after getting to know Adena & what she was getting up to whilst Paedyn was doing the trials, it made the outcome so much more heartbreaking :( 

FYI i don’t rate novellas very high. This was a masterpiece. This story was so heartwarming, and i’m glad i got to spend more time with this character, and i love the new one. But i’ve had enough heartbreak. I fully had to take my glasses off, my eyes were stinging so much and had to take a moment away from the book. Can’t say i’ve ever really had to do that. It’s worse, reading the whole of this, seeing her personality and effect on other people- just to know how the story ends. Heartbreaking. I feel i’m going to be crying for a while.

I knew what was going to happen but read their story got me in a way I didn’t expect, especially for a novella. I really enjoyed getting this little novella and can see why some would tandem read it. I’m really intrigued to see what else from this book could potentially add into the trilogy as a whole.
