I think for the most part, most every girl has had a taste of this situation, including yours truly. I cannot even begin to tell you how much it angers me and saddens me at the same time that kids can be so thoughtless and cruel to one another. I’m not going to get into a rant on this review, just know it breaks my heart. Even though this story has a heavy subject, I think Laurie Boyle Crompton did a great job at making it light-hearted. Blaze has this amazing group of sidekicks in her brother thirteen year old brother and his three friends. As much as they annoy her, she really does love them. They sure knew how to bring on the laughs. :) Blaze also has two girlfriends…but I just liked one. The other friend I wanted to seriously punch in the face. Wow. With friends like that… And don’t even get me started on her parents! I can’t even… There’s lots of geeky comic talk in this book which, if you’re not hugely into comics, won’t hinder your reading experience one bit. In fact, the many comic factoids I learned in this story may have elevated my level of coolness. I’m sure of it! Plus, bonus! There’s a Cute Comic Book Guy in the horizon! As for Mark, the Shark, I thought he was charming…but maybe not your smartest cookie, as a lot of these pretty, player types seem to be. He did a horrible thing by posting that picture of Blaze, and I’m surprised he, or any of the other sites who had the picture up, weren’t reprimanded. I mean, Blaze is seventeen! I would’ve liked to have seen some sort of repercussions for him on. He just got off too easily in my opinion. Overall I really enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting. I loved how witty and funny it was at times, but I definitely would’ve liked to have seen some consequences in the end. I loved all the comic book talk too, and so I look forward to seeing what else Ms. Crompton will bring us.
