Law Man

Love is just around the corner . . . Sweet, shy Mara Hanover is in love with her neighbor. For four years, she has secretly watched her dream man from afar. Handsome police detective Mitch Lawson is way out of her league. She's a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, and there's no way a guy like Mitch would want anything to do with her. But when Mara has a leaky faucet that she can't fix, it's Mitch who comes to her rescue. Mitch has been eyeing his beautiful neighbor for a long time. He jumps at the chance to help her, and soon their formerly platonic relationship gets very hot and heavy. But when Mara gets a disturbing phone call from her cousin's kids, she gets pulled back into the life she's tried so hard to leave behind. Can the hot law man convince Mara to let go of her past-and build a future with him?

4 STARS "No, I was made to protect you, and you were made in a way that it would always be worth the effort." "If I’m your Mitch, you’re my Mara,” he whispered against my skin, his words making me shiver again because I liked that idea, a whole lot. " Let’s start from a few very important questions: 1. Was this a long ass book? Yes ( and I mean Mariana Zapata long ) 2. Will Mitch be in my top five book boyfriends category? YES he certainly will. 3. Is this gonna be my most highlighted book? Also YES 4. Could I have Mitch's children even though I hate kids? Yes I could. Have the whole bus. Anything for you baby. I never thought I will like this book, because most of the books from 2012 era have some really bad stuff in them, for example "I’m not like other girls" thing, which I can’t even look at without saying sorry to my eyes that they have to read that. BUT this book was surprisingly really good, I mean REALLY good. The plot was great, side characters lovely and the heroine even though after 60% in the book her insecurity was getting slightly too much.. I totally get her why she was like that after the explanation happened. I loved her from the start actually, because she was soo damn cute, and I don’t mean that in the quirky way cute. HELL NAH. Now let’s get to the part when we talk about the MOST important character, sorry men of my dreams Detective Mitch Lawson. I could write a whole ass book about my love for him. I don't want to spoil your enjoyment by giving you his quotes here because really do yourself a favor and read this book, even if it's meant to be read ONLY for him. I literally had butterflies in my stomach while reading the book because of this man. It was also kinda?¿ a slow burn, but not Mariana Zapata slow burn, so don’t worry. 50-60%, I’m saying that only because I needed to see my future husband in action.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book, especially since it was my first time reading this author's work. I went into the book, looking for something light, entertaining, and perhaps a little sexy, then learned that it was all that and then some!

Just to be clear, this book is not faultless. It could benefit from a more meticulous line- and copyediting (it contains occasional spelling and punctuation errors), and the writing style took some getting used to (well, at least for me). But oddly enough, I found myself compelled to continue reading, despite these issues that would typically put me off.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good romance, with a dash of action and mystery. But this book encompasses more than just Mara and Mitch's love story; it’s also about a woman learning to rediscover herself, as well as it's a heartwarming account of family—a concept that can take many different forms but will always thrive as long as there’s love.

Law Man is the book I have been waiting for since book one, I was so hooked on Mitch Lawson who is a sexy police detective. But even though this is one of the books I was looking forward to I also found that it wasn’t quite as wonderful as books 1 and 2. Granted I enjoyed Law Man in many ways but the heroine really drove me nuts. She didn’t have much common sense and her most common phrases are “umm” and once we know more about her past, seeing how she is become more understandable once we understand her past but still she still drove me crazy most of the time. Mara has had a crush on Mitch Lawson and been half in love with the police detective for over four years. And when her bathroom sink has problems, he comes over to fix it and sparks fly and before she knows it Mitch is going after her fully speed ahead. But Mara has a weird people meter and she views herself as a 2.5 and views Mitch as a 10.5 and way out of her league. She grew up in a trailer park and the way her mother and aunt treated her has had Mara look down on herself and she doesn’t have much confidence in herself. But Mitch sees her for the woman that she truly is. He think her system is nuts and crazy and that people are just that….human beings. some are good some are bad and some are in between. But when there is a problem with Mara’s young cousins, Mitch helps her out. Now Mara has to deal with handling Mitch, become an adoptive parent to two children whose father is in jail. I really enjoyed this book even though the heroine was a bit “wonko” and trust me that is me being nice because she can be a little cookoo at times. But what I LOVED was the hero. Mitch is such a nice guy and really genuine and has a clean record. He is great with the kids and he understands Mara and is determined to win her over despite how crazy she is in the head and wants to make her understand how the real world really works and that no one is better than another. Of course she doesn’t fully understand until her mother and aunt make a reappearance and we see such a vast different from Mara and her family members. We see how much Mara has done for herself. She has a job she enjoys and makes decent money, she is honest and doesn’t even have a parking ticket. She pays her bills on time and even has a savings set aside for a rainy day. She is smart and loves music and candles and a very good cook. She is such a good person despite those she was born to who are truly horrible and I love seeing Mara come into herself and discover her true worth and seeing her become more confident and sure of who she really is and not the person her mother tried to make her believe she is. Let’s see if I can tear that cocoon wide open and let my Mara fly. Then we have the two children who are simply adorable. They haven’t had the best father though, who throws him money away on cigarettes and alcohol instead of making sure they have food. But we see things change when Mara and Mitch come to save them when they run away, and come to their home to see their father (Mara’s cousin) high on drugs and discover he is a drug dealer and has messed with some bad people including the russian mob and that if Mara hadn’t taken in the kids when she did, that something worse would have happened to them. We see how strong Mara and the children love each other and they cling to Mitch. We see these four become a true family, step by step they resolve the problems and issues and become stronger together. “I’ll go gentle, baby,” he whispered against my lips. “I promise. You’ll always be safe with me.” Oh. My. “Mitch,” I breathed. His soulful eyes held mine captive as he repeated firmly, “Always.” Law Man is a story that is packed with vibrant emotion and feels that you feel deep down to the soul, it’s a tale of healing, trust and personal growth!!! RIVETING from beginning to end.

I liked the story. The main character had a very unique voice and perspective. I loved her system for ranking people according to looks, personality, etc...

** spoiler alert ** I very much enjoyed reading this book was a perfect book for a pick me up on a rainy day, I felt the book had enough action and plot to keep it driven throughout the whole book. The characters felt very exceptional and real to ( we have or know of the dysfunctional person in our families) so I Loved how Mitch handle everything , but Mara also was fiercely trying to defend her way of thinking that up tp that put of meeting him she thought was rights. But Mitch saw that and immediately wanted to break through that way of think I will definitely re=read over again.

Find this review and more at kimberlyfaye reads. Since long before I even started reading Law Man, my bookish bestie talked about "Big Hearted Mitch" and how she just KNEW he would be my favorite KA guy. She wasn't wrong. My god, I loved this man. KA might've ruined me for all real life guys forever with him. I'm not even close to kidding. I knew as soon as I started this book that it would wind up being my favorite of KA's books. (Shhhh. Don't tell the others.) I loved Mara. I felt like I really understood her. I mean, I wanted to shake her sometimes for how much she underestimated herself, but I like how Mitch talked sense into her. She was so much better than how she saw herself. But you can only be beaten down so many times before you begin to believe what's being said is actually the truth. (Did I mention Mara's family was scum? Ugh.) Mitch brought her out of her shell. Mitch, Mitch, Mitch. Swoony Mitch. I don't even have the words to explain how much I loved him. He was amazing on his own, but once you added in Mara's cousin's kids to the equation and you got to watch him make life special for those kids? I melted. Hard. I highlighted roughly 1/3 of this book. I'm not even kidding. The tough guy sweet quotes made my heart flutter. I loved how Mitch helped Mara see the truth of who she was. I loved how together they gave these kids a life they deserved after her scummy cousin failed with them. Not only was this book sexy as hell, it was sweet and romantic and even had a fair amount of action. I laughed and cried and loved every single minute of it. I'll be shocked if I don't end the year with this as one of my top reads of all of 2016. FAVORITE QUOTES: In this world, Sevens to Tens gravitated to each other and rarely, if ever, dipped below the Seven mark. They might try a Six or even go slumming with a Five, but they'd settle in for the long haul with someone in their zone. Then the Fours to Sixes gravitated to each other. There was more workability here for those under Four to get in but it was also rare. And my zone, Ones to Threes gravitated to each other. If you were of my zone, only the foolish aimed higher than a Three. Higher than a Three equaled heartache. "I'm gonna kiss you, and you're gonna kiss me. I'm gonna do other things to you, and you're gonna do other things to me. No way in hell even you can share a kiss with a man like the ones we shared last night and not explore where that could go." “Since I have your attention, baby, and I see you beatin’ your retreat, I want you to take this with you when you slide back into that cocoon. Straight up, Mara, I want you in my bed. And when you’re in my bed, I’m gonna be in you. And while I’m movin’ inside you, I’m gonna make you come with your long, fuckin’ legs wrapped around my back, when my hands are finally on that fantastic fuckin’ ass of yours, your tongue’s in my mouth and you’re kissin’ me as only you can kiss me. I know you got a way of twistin’ shit so it’s fucked up in your brain, so I’m hopin’ if I’m direct about just what I want from you, it might penetrate and you might keep it straight long enough to give us both what we’ve been wantin’ for a long fuckin’ time.” "Let's see if I can tear that cocoon wide open and let my Mara fly." "Never believed in this shit, but now I'm thinkin' I fell in love with the promise of you the first time I saw you."
