I really loved the first volume of LDK, so I thought I’d have no problem loving the rest of the series too. Unfortunately, this second volume didn’t live up to my expectations. I would not suggest reading the rest of this review if you haven’t yet read the first volume.

Shusei and Aoi are each others’ romantic interests who refuse to admit their feelings for each other. In the first volume, an unfortunate accident occurred and caused Shusei to move into Aoi’s apartment while his was being fixed up. In this volume, Shusei is still back to living in his apartment. Due to this separation between the characters, something needed to happen for them to be forced back together, right? Wrong. I don’t think it was necessary to continue to force the characters to live together, and I think the story very well could have survived without using that plot line again. But the mangaka thought it necessary and threw in an unnecessary character to shake things up. 

Introducing Komine, Aoi’s underclassman who happens to be head over heels in love with her and desperate to prove that he is better in every way than Shusei. It’s revealed to us that he’s been creepily watching her and following her around (prime example when he showed up at her apartment). Now, I understand that sometimes, in manga, this is taken well and liked, but for me, it was just too much. Komine was extremely childish (go figure), and I didn’t like how he practically forced Aoi into what he wanted for the sake of the storyline. What was supposed to be humorous turned out to just be annoying.

I originally rated this volume 3 stars, but after taking some time to think about it, I’m downgrading it to 2 stars.
