I've read many books that deal with this topic, but this one really showed how much addiction can change you as a person, the grip it has on you is unlike anything else

Maxx was a character I really felt for, the pain and despair he dealt with was heartbreaking to see, and I kinda understood his logic behind why he chose to do drugs and even why he chose to deal

Sometimes we do things that are self destructive even when we know it's not good for us, we still choose to do it because we believe it gives us something nothing else can ever provide

The denial Maxx had towards his addiction was sad and frustrating, and I really get why Aubrey found it so difficult to just ignore it

I related a lot to Aubrey when it came to her ray of emotions towards Maxx, it is devastating to watch someone you love destroy themselves, it feels so agonizing and painful that all you want to do is erase their pain as if it were your own

This book was incredible, I connected deeply with both characters in different ways and there were so many topics that this book took up that felt very personal to me

One of them was the friendship between Renee and Aubrey, the way it started with Aubrey being frustrated at Renee's relationship and not being able to understand how she still chose to stay despite her being treated so badly by her bf

But then in the end she starts to understand the power love have over us and regardless of the logic and morals, we still can't ignore the love we have for someone even if it hurts us

The choice she makes in the end is something I think I could never do, and a part of me still thinks it's difficult to believe someone can love someone and still choose to leave them, but another part of me gets it
