I looked around the chamber. It felt as if naledi had just left. They had altered this space, and then, when the last one had departed, everything had remained as they had left it. It felt as if we had opened the door to ric that had been abandoned for decades, old newspapers still turned mn snecifc page and moth-eaten clothes still hanging, just a covering of dust betraying that time has passed.

They begin in tragedy, but eventually they achieve an immortality that the billions who live and die on the surface will likely never attain.

i am an anthropology nerd through and through. absolutely loved this book, i found it fascinating. Homo naledi wasn’t covered in the paleoanthropology course i took and it was so interesting to read about the fieldwork aspect of paleoanth! amazing writing and made me appreciate the field even more than i already did.
