Coming from Asia (although not China), I'm well aware of the term "leftover women" and how women's sole achievement in life is measured on how fast they can get married (never mind if it was a loveless or unhappy marriage) and how much money they (their husbands) have.

I've heard about the singles market where grandparents (or parents) brought the photos of their single grandchildren along with laminated profiles to exchange. It's just so absurd in a level that it's become an interesting subject to discuss about and I find it interesting to have someone from "outside" the culture to look into it and interpret their perspectives onto a book.
