3 STARS I’m a little bit torn about this story. Let me tell you what I liked about it first. It is exactly what you want a contemporary romance novel to be like. There is lots of drama, strong female character, and a bunch of interesting antagonists. The romance in this story is sweet, and off the charts hot, with Brandon saying things like: ‘I couldn’t give a shit if you’ve been with one or one thousand other men, because none of them are going to light a fucking candle to what you and I can do together.’ Nevertheless, I still found myself skipping some parts of the book, as, in my opinion, they didn’t have any purpose and were simply boring. I proud myself on being honest and diplomatic, so what irks me the most in books is when the dramatic situations seem forced in some way and could easily be avoided. Unfortunately, there was lots of that in this story. Brandon and Sky, two highly intelligent and educated people, acted like characters in Brazilian telenovelas. Sky’s go to response if something didn’t go her way was slapping Brandon in the face, saying things she didn’t mean, leaving and then changing her mind five minutes later. Brandon must really be in love if after all this he still decides to fight for their relationship. Even though Brandon was honest about what he wants and his feeling for Sky, she still managed to interpret everything the wrong way. Sometimes I had to go back and reread what he said, because I could not understand how she managed to arrive at this conclusion. I am still going to read the second book in the series, because despite all of the above I really want to find out what happens to Brandon and Sky. I also hope that the story will pick up, and they will both have some more rational reasons for their actions.
